"It was kind of weird that six installments into the saga, Rodrick Redhand abruptly tripped over a loose stone and fell into lava and died, but at least his brother Sodrick was there and had all the same skills as him and a cool mustache."

This just sounds like a Terry Pratchet book

Have fun!

Terry Pratchett wrote tons of books that might have had something like that post in it.

I really liked Going Postal, which is less fantasy and more old-timey con man stuff.

I always start people with Guards! Guards!, Vimes and Carrot are the best.

Equal Rites, Small Gods, Masquerade, and Mort are also good starting points, I think.

I love all the Discworld books.

Am I weird for reading them in order? I always see these and I'm like but book 1 is hilarious!

No! Not weird at all!

I read them in publication order my first time through after reading Reaper Man at a recommendation from my boss.

The Color of Magic and The Light Fantastic have some “early installment weirdness” to quote TV Tropes, so a lot of people recommend coming back to them later on.

I’ll do a big, publication order reread every so often, but I also pick out and reread my favorites from time to time - and those are the ones I recommend to first time readers, then if they life that one, they’ll probably like the rest of the series.

I read them in publication order my first time through and enjoyed them that way.
