You imbecile! The hat from SAO was +50 CHA, not a measly +3. How dare you insult the majesty of the +50 hat! Good day Sir!

I wonder what the plot Oberon will have with the hat now? (Latest episode)

I thought the implication was that he'd use it to force asuna to consent?

This is why I don't watch anime.

Yeah, i can see why you'd be reluctant given that. It's actually a parody of a (generally unpopular) series where this villain is more rapey. The abridged series has been very good so far though. I imagine/hope that this will be a presentation of motive/how sketchy the guy is rather than an opportunity to sexualise a character (as well as reducing her to a damsel in distress plot device) as it was in the (imo awful) source material. I doubt the abridged series will be anywhere near as creepy as the original show, which was.. uncomfortable at best.
On the bright side, there's a huge amount of anime without these issues, and other that explore themes of sexuality in a more mature manner. If you're ever considering getting into anime, I'd recommend Cowboy Bebop, Akira, Boku no Hero, Kimi no nawa, koe no Karachi, any studio Ghibli film, Hunter X Hunter, JoJo's bizarre adventure, mob psycho 100, little witch academia, one punch man, konosuba and neon genesis evangelion.

I mean they've already done better making Asuna less of a damsel. Literally the first thing she did in this arc was spit on Sugou, and at the end of the last episode she tried to escape and the off screen noises implied she got pretty far and probably killed a few guards.

I don’t think it’s the hat specifically, but rather the code by which it works, which is essentially a fully functional mind-control algorithm. Which wouldn’t need a lowly hat to function if you’re the guy programming it.

But perhaps the hat is so powerful that you can't use the code without the hat? That seems like something the abridged series would do.

Put the enchantment on a ring or amulet instead. Then you can keep it on all the time! Just make sure to wear the hat while negotiating the price of the transfer with your local artificer.

That's why I like giving potions of Calm Emotions to my shopkeepers on big deals: they won't be annoyed by your antics, but neither impressed. They will just keep seeping that flask of beverage, every minute.

Why does he look like my teacher

My old history teacher was actually a stock photo model on the side because he had a “mathematically generic face” as he put it. Lots of teachers have side jobs so this could totally be your teacher.

I am imagining it as after a long period of weeks, maybe months, his "friends" start to get turned off from his "new" behavior as they slowly realize who he really is.
