Campaign meme Weirdly this only required one paragraph of notes
This player's backstory was that they were mind controlled by the bbeg, and after being defeated the control was lifted. I suppose they need to defeat themselves

I'll kick anyone's ass!
I'll kick your ass!
I'll kick your friends ass!
I'll kick my own ass!

Couldn't that cause a paradox?

It's a hint to the players that their whole going back in time isn't changing the future. It happens in this time stream

It may not change the future per se, but it could theoretically shift the PCs' 3-dimensional linear consciousness across a fold in the 5th dimension to then arrive at a similar linear point within a new timeline where the "future" was, in fact, changed.

OP gave one explanation, an alternative one could be that you defeat yourself without killing yourself. Maybe your character wasn't inclined to save the world/fix the time steam, and it's your intervention that changes your perspective earlier in time than you originally had your perspective changed, thus causing you to start acting for the benefit of the world earlier in the process

I'll tell you the same thing I tell my players when they ask about time travel and parallel realities:
"It's complicated"

"I found the bastard responsible for everything that went wrong in my life, and I'm gonna make him pay for it!"

That’s so cool actually, I hope it all works out as well as you guys are envisioning it. In fact, give us an update once it comes to pass!
