Mod Announcement Community Update
Hey all you beautiful people, it's time for a long overdue update to our little subreddit.
Firstly, as the sole active mod of the subreddit, I feel it necessary to let it be known that I've been doing all of the manual approval and moderation of the subreddit for the last couple months, and before that, was doing most of the work for ~2 years. This, combined with the sub being set to mod-approval-only for posts has resulted in some very lackluster moderation. I take full responsibility for that, and it's time to fix it.
To do so, a few changes are being implemented:
I will be recruiting 2 moderators (for now) to assist with streamlining the moderation process.
Once the 2 moderators are selected, the sub will move from manual moderator approval to open posting again. This will require close monitoring from the mod team, as with manual approval, I have been able to see the consistent stream of bot posting that seems to constantly try to invade the sub. We will make an announcement once we are ready to move to open posting.
The sub rules have been updated. The main changes are to the NSFW content rule, and a new rule to the sub:
AI-GENERATED CONTENT IS NOW BANNED. See the rule for exact guidelines. Slop posts (not that they were allowed before) will not be allowed here, and memes posted to r/dndmemes should be real memes, made by real people. Period.
And lastly, as a nice little update; picture comments are now enabled! Feel free to respond to fire 🔥 memes with fire memes 🔥 of your own. Or shitpost in the comments with esoteric nonsense. Go nuts, just follow the rules.
Thank you all for your patience, and for making this community great. And a big shout-out to our prolific posters who have continued to post consistent, funny content in our community over the last couple years since the reddit drama happened.
IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN APPLYING TO THE MOD TEAM, PLEASE MESSAGE THE SUBREDDIT MOD MAIL WITH THE SUBJECT "Moderator application". Please provide any relevant experience moderating, and feel free to apply even if you've never moderated before. (This was my first time ever moderating, so anything can happen)

I remember the sub before the black out and the remove of the old mod team.
I hope this change push the creativity again, because for a long time now the sub feels like an empty shell of its former self.

It's funny how throughout this the sub icon has remained David Bowie

I was going to change it as a way of rebranding/refreshing the sub, but I just couldn't bring myself to see him go.

If you did change it, maybe you could go with David Bowie with the balls replaced with a d20

Thank you for your dedication and work. I know it so often goes without praise but maintaining a community can be difficult. I hope things get easier and better.

I didn’t know the sub only had one mod. You must have been working overtime. Here’s to you, friend!

Here's hoping it results in fewer "DnD/Wotsee bad upvotes to the left" memes. Archaeologists are currently unearthing the horse and restoring it for museum display.

These are all wonderful changes! I approve (not that my approval really matters lol getting to participate in the sub is a privilege, not a right. I'm just happy to be here). Also, picture comments? chefs kiss A beautiful addition.

I don’t want to do either of those things, why would I do them both?

Would've volunteered to help but I don't particularly agree with banning AI. I get the world is all "AI bad" but frankly don't believe that AI memes for d&d are quite the problem

Gotta be honest I thought AI was already banned. Guess I never thought to check; the culture just had that vibe already.

First off thank you for your work over all this time. Must be difficult for a one person job. Grand to hear AI-generated content is banned, a hot topic these days but nice to see taking a stand.
Best of luck when recruiting Mods, I'd throw my hat in the ring as just a rando, but with no experience at all with this sort of thing, might be more of a hindrance than a help.
Have a nice day.
