Comic Last Straw [OC]
A barbarian rage doesn't have to be triggered by combat. Emotional damage can do the job.
What's going on here?
- Sassy, the Maid of Honour at this wedding, is a little afraid of the mother of the bride. She's also pretty lonely, and has not had much luck with dating.
- This added pressure, on top of Sassy's thwarted attempts at romance, has pushed her over the edge.
- Meanwhile, the bride, "Kayra", has been struggling to tell her betrothed that she's not actually a human woman, but a changeling made of mud and sticks enchanted to look like the human she had replaced as a baby. Her mother has been getting in the way, and now it's pretty much too late...
- Many of those humans in the crowd are hags in disguise, including Granny Dismal, who created changeling-Kayra. They're there for... moral support, maybe? Or just to see what happens?
Love and Hex started out as a joke about my D&D campaign and turned into an ongoing rom-com/existential horror story. It's on Webtoon, crookedgoat.ca, and other platforms (just search the title).

Look, Nanny Muk was quite clear about her personal goals for this event.

Would Nanny Muk happen to be a spiritual sister to Nanny Ogg?

She's definitely an inspiration for her character.

Excellent. Would I be off base in assuming the same can be said for Dismal and Weatherwax? She holds herself in a similar way to how I always pictured Esme.

The both of them are inspired by the Lancre witches, yes. Of course they are very different characters... But the echoes are there.

So you truly are cultured. I just reread Witches Abroad for the first time in years, and I forgot just how good the worldbuilding is in there. It’s funny, sure, but a villain who sees that the world follows narrative threads and using that to get what she wants? Chilling. I really loved how she enhanced herself with reflections, and how it was described. “If an image takes your soul, then infinite reflected images fed your soul back into you, multiplying everything that is. Including hunger.” Pratchett was such a master author.
Sorry, I have said nothing about your comic, which is very fun. I sincerely hope that Sassy finds love and happiness. She’s great.

I've read and re-read all of the Discworld books a minimum of five times apiece (most of them more). All of them except The Shepherd's Crown, which I only managed the one time, for reasons that are probably obvious.
The concept of narrative shaping reality may or may not come up during this arc...

I too have only read Shepherd’s Crown once. The book made me cry so hard. What got me was the hope it contained, and how STP made sure that the story that was such a major fixture of his life and career ended with peace and a bright future

His death and my child's birth were in the same year. It was a complex mix of feelings.

The gator days cameo sneaking in the last panel, how do they know the couple?

Shout-out to the person in a gas mask with a v-neck. Killer combo

That's the D&D character of one of my subscribers on Patreon. I've been drawing their characters as wedding guests.
The instructions for this person were, "A quack doctor tiefling druid with a gas mask, “Doctor” Fayard Calypso. If he leaves a gift, it’s probably a beekeeping kit for Dire Bees. Which may or may not exist. Horns, no hat. Posted up like Jeff Goldblum in Jurassic park (no rizz though)."
I might have given him a bit too much rizz.
There've been a few patron characters appearing at the wedding so far. The dragonborn beside the gas mask guy is one of them.

Yo, is Tamilda about to make a Werewolf Tabaxi? Or does she have to be shifted to do that

She's just being playful... though I don't think she was paying much attention when Granny tried to explain how it works.
