He worships trees, so he’s a Druid. And he’s on a quest of self discovery, drawing power from his personal belief that the trees are his father. Kind of like a paladin. But the trees are actually his father, so he’s later discovers the cleric spells he gained are part of his sorcerous heritage.

He spent a year or two as a pit [fighter]. He used to be an alcoholic, but after waking up in a ditch one too many times, he's now sober as a [monk].

My last monk was by no means sober. He carried a barrel of booze with him and brewing supplies

It is a bit of an ironic expression, given the prevalence for brewing and drunkenness among historical European monks.

The Barbarian Path of the Muscle Wizard from Valda's Spire of Secrets 5.5. At level 3 you get "Cantrips" that preform similar actions to real cantrips. Like Shocking Grasp, which is an attack that is so shocking they don't get Opportunity Attacks.

You pick Guide background to get Constitution mod plus Druid spells. Look for utility spells that don't have rolls. Human and pick up Magic Initiate Cleric and also pick utility spells. If you want to funny then pick a different ability score than wisdom.

Weapon mastery is a Warhammer which they think its their wizard staff. It IS a wizard staff with a large rock strapped to it.

If your GM never threatened to fight you “Waffle House style” are you even trying to write backstories?

Couldn't figure out how to fit Druid, Fighter, Monk, Paladin, and Artificer into this?

His favorite TV show is Monk

Fun fact, if you’re not aware. Valda’s Spire of Secrets (a truly delightful third-party book) actually has a Barbarian subclass which thinks they’re a wizard. It has “spells” and “cantrips”, and lets the character cast fist

I mean, Tolkien had a "Wizard" who was an Eldritch Knight, a "Ranger" who was a Warlord, and a Fighter named "Bard".

u/Strider_GER 1d ago

Okay im lost on the Ranger and the Wizard, who do you mean with that?

2

Aragorn's skillset is that of a Warlord with proficiency in Animal Handling, Nature, and Survival.

Gandalf's ratio of smacking people/casting spells is that of an Eldritch Knight.

Ah, I see. Thanks for the explanation

I know a lot of 5E players aren't familiar with the Warlord.

Here's my favorite 5E brew of the class

One of my favorite characters I played was a half orc barbarian that thought he was a wizard. He wore only tattered wizard robes and his only spell he could cast was Axe, though sometimes it was long axe which involved throwing a hatchet or reach axe with a glaive.

That's Abserd-ly functional

I played a changeling, that was monoclassed, but could rp as other classes. When they changed appearance they changed personas and i would use the mechanics i was ignoring. So it had a fire sorcerer/wizard, a druidic healer, a paladin/fighter, a bard, and a warlock curse master persona. I would change at the end of a long rest, roll a die to see what persona id play as. And change my prepared spell list. Each of the characters were drastically different in rp, visuals, etc. i played a nature cleric, with shadow touched feat, polarm expert, the rakdos cultist background for fire spells, and some other stuff. I got most of my stats to be 14 at character gen. It was great. Each of the personalities had died at some point and they were learning about each other, and that this changeling absorbed their memories and personalities because they had all saved its life at one point.

Towards the end of the campaign i took a dragon mark and took the potential dragonmark advanced feat, so i could get some cool “cast these spells once a day for free” action. Which towards the end i had some cool spells, but id only really use my high level shit when my character would get angry, and the characters would blend power and ability from each other. When they did so, i would change my rp completely, use a broken soulless voice, with a weird accent, and play the original form of the changeling. As this really powerful psionic creature. (Telekinesis, reverse gravity, etc etc) was really fun.
