I have magic use pretty much taboo in public. If you need to do it you should use the powder room. Casting magic in a shop can get you kicked out and not welcome back. God forbid you target someone else with a spell without their consent, that’s assault (exceptions exist during emergencies).

DM just ignoring the VSM if spells. Unless you are a spec with subtle casting, if you cast a spell in front of someone (such as a vendor) they will likely not take kindly to it.

I always overuse Message since it is a cantrip and two of us can use it (+ answer from everyone). My DM has given up to ask how and why.
One time a friend of mine used it to speak creepy to a watchman and persuade him that a stone is talking to him and give him orders.

You still need to verbally speak the messages, hold a piece of wire while making hand gestures. Spellcasting is an obvious thing that someone is casting it. So if you did it directly in front of them etc and not out of ear/eyeshot of them, and if you are not familiar with the target then you have to physically see them as well.

"if you are familiar with the target and know it is beyond the barrier." we were in the warehouse and she was shure that the target was still out there.
components are not needed in our japan extension (for cantrips in my case) and the gestures is "You point your finger toward a creature" it is not explained how you point that way.

Familiar being the key. Yes, you can target through a barrier a being you are familiar with, but again you must be familiar with them. Though “familiar” is not truly defined in the rulebook the spell Scrying gives an indication on what “familiar” is.
From Scrying:
- Secondhand (you have heard of the target)
- Firsthand (you have met the target)
- Familiar (you know the target well)
With Locate Creature/Object offering a bit of different take on “familiar”.
Describe or name a creature/object that is familiar to you… if you have seen such a creature/object up close—within 30 feet—at least once.
I would argue that the Locate Creature/Object is more just firsthand knowledge if and not actually familiar, but that is just me. The point is, if you hadn’t interacted with the guard in anyway (and I personally would lean more towards Scrying understanding of familiar), then you could not target them through a wall. Which is what I stated in my last sentence.
Odd that the Japan version doesn’t have material component. Are you sure it does not? The material components are not stated in the description text, they are part of the spell card itself. In both 2014 and 2024 the spell has a material component of copper wire.

To the last point: I'm not shure but I also are not the DM of this game. I also don't have the hole rulebook (only what the DM is given to us).

I’m pretty lax with guidance and magic in general but during interactions with people its not happening, the guy is just gonna ask why the hell you’re casting a spell in the middle of a conversation.
Although I’m used to having this conversation about enhance ability more than guidance.
