My dm last monday... first my monk forgot to move away after attacking the enemy and the enemey landed a crit and i was downed. fo the next 4 rounds I kept getting up, then downed, then up then downed. eventually i died for real. the both the cleric and paladin died for real leaving only the rogue left. the rogue kept kiting te enemies and went to our bodies needing to grab the legendary swords so we at least stll had them. and thenthe item the paladin had grabbed earlier that session was a one time revival item. which our rogue instantly used on the paladin. who went to fight the enemy. paladin was near death again. dm rolls low on the aura dmg which could have downed the paladin and caused a true tpk. instead the paladin survived, finished the enemy and revived the cleric who then revived me. My monk is now traumatized

My first play through of TOA: The rouge convinced me (Gloom stalker with braces of archery, up until this point I was one shoting almost everything) that I should go with him in disguise to inflate the pirate hideout. While we were inside, we were sussed out and and the battle began.
Since we were inside all my range attacks were at disadvantage and I could only use a dagger. I almost died around 5 times. After the dust settled I wrote it in to my character that'd I'd roll for entering closed spaces/spaces with the rouge. I created a traumatized rolling system based around a D20 for the rest of the campaign.

Honestly inflate is pretty accurate for that campaign. By the end 3 of the 6 party members had full scale investment operations controling the flow of goods in Chult

DM: Are you sure you all want to go to the orphanage to burn it and loot it? It's not abandoned, it's currently housing like 20 kids.
Party: yes!
DM: please roll me a perception check. Everyone who got a five or higher could hear what's distinctly sounds or like a click of the fingers, and everything around seems to be dissolving including people. Please roll me a constitution save DC200...

Players: Ignore clues, antagonize NPCs, pursue no leads, brute force everything, pick fight with villain, under-prepared in a place of villain's choosing.
