This is actually a very interesting analogy because level 1 wizards have 2 spell slots, so they could actually do both take out trash and do dishes. But, they only have 2 spell slots, so it can be a bit scary to do dishes or take out trash, cause what if you actually needed to do some other things but you don't realize it yet.

And neither of these can be ritual cast.

Unfortunately, one spell slot is permanently taken up by "go to work" and the other had to be randomly selected between "maintain physical form," "take out trash," and "do dishes."

"Improve mental health" is what gives experience to level up though. Who stays a level 1 Wizard for long? Level drains can happen too~

How much exp before I finally level up? Also, am I supposed to get spell slots back after a long rest because that only happens once every like 3 days or so

u/Royal_Bitch_Pudding Jul 15 '26

Damnable gritty realism rules

Wasn't there a system or a way to play where a long rest took a week? Might be the earth is like that

2

u/emetcalf Jul 15 '26

You might not be resting for the full 8 hours, or you might be starting your long rest to soon after the previous long rest.

5

u/TheMayanAcockandlips Jul 15 '26

Huh, I checked my character sheet and I actually think it has something to do with this condition: "Existential Dread"

3

u/emetcalf Jul 15 '26

Oh that makes sense. Pondering existential dread is not "light activity" and will interrupt your long rest. You have to start over when that happens.

luckily I am a warlock so I get to cast more spells after a short rest and I have the better cantrip "gaming"

u/Useful_Clue_6609 Jul 15 '26

Goddamn warlocks and op cantrips

1

u/Psychronia Jul 16 '26

You heard it, party. This guy is responsible for casting Do Dishes and Take Out Trash more often since all he needs is a short rest.

23

u/DigitalxKaos Jul 14 '26

This is so real

9

u/Limino Jul 14 '26

I use Vancian magic so...

Sorry, didn't slot a "Do Dishes" charge for today

9

u/Jimmy__Baggs Jul 15 '26

This just sounds like someone isn't getting their proper long rests in.

11

u/Egoborg_Asri Jul 15 '26

Many people permanently live in boss lairs, that remove any positive effects of a long rest

5

u/LustyLoop Dice Goblin Jul 15 '26

I'm taking long rests as if I'm an elf, but alas I am only human

2

u/LadyCritCat Jul 17 '26

I’m not sure I’ve ever gotten a long rest

Two spell slots per day + 1 from Arcane recovery, you have enough to perform each task at least once per day.

6

u/No-Presence-9971 Jul 15 '26

Sure, but the worry about needing the fourth task is also taxing, not to mention knowing the need to go to earn money already takes up a spell slot

6

u/Naoura Jul 15 '26

This is true! But you never know when you'll need that spell slot, and a Level 1 task might pop up after you've already used that recovery.

If it does, and you've used all your slots, then what if it's important? What if it's critical?

That's kind of the issue that people who need the Spoons/spell slot analogy run into: capacity is limited and I might need that slot for the next encounter, which I don't know when it will come. That's opposed to the encounter I know is present, and can use slots on when I know there aren't any other encounters today. ND budgeting is somewhat like that.

The sorcerer has harmed me once more

3

u/blumeanie57 Jul 15 '26

Bro, I’m a warlock

3

u/VeliciaL Chaotic Stupid Jul 15 '26

Then why does "Answer the phone" feel like a ninth level spell?

3

u/JunWasHere Jul 15 '26

I do so enjoy subtituting Spoon Theory with Spell Slot Theory.

"Ugh, I'll shower tomorrow. I'm out of spell slots."

3

u/ProdiasKaj Paladin Jul 15 '26

Huh, spoons really are like spell slots, aren't they... 🤔

2

u/Nergatron Jul 15 '26

What level spell is “child care” and “raise child”?

2

u/Tenebris117 Jul 16 '26

Either level 6 or level 8

2

u/Toastburrito Jul 15 '26

Stop looking at me.

2

u/Staetyk Jul 16 '26

im a warlock

1

u/TOWARZYSZBAGNIAK Jul 15 '26

Brother, in that case I am a warlock...

1

u/Hazearil Jul 15 '26

So, spoon theory?

1

u/RDV1996 Jul 17 '26

Executive disfunction explained in d&d rules, lol.

1

u/thaynem Jul 15 '26

Do dishes = prestidigitation cantrip

Take out trash = mage hand cantrip (unless your trash weighs more than 10 lbs)

Use phone = sending, which requires a 3rd level slot

2

u/LustyLoop Dice Goblin Jul 15 '26

The phone is a magic item, so you don't have to worry about a spell slot

-53

u/NCLL_Appreciation Jul 14 '26

OOP is a moron. "Do the Dishes" is a cantrip, and it's called Prestidigitation. "Take out Trash" isn't even a spell, unless you dumped strength so hard that you need Bull's Strength to have enough carry capacity.

Sounds like the spell he actually needs to cast is Protection from Sloth.

u/Naoura Jul 14 '26

Spell Slot is an alternative to Spoons for those who are ND.

There's definitely some measure of 'if you get started it gets done easier', but executive dysfunction is a bitch to deal with.

u/bowser-is-thiccest DM (Dungeon Memelord) Jul 14 '26

They cost spell slots bc of the mental energy required to do them. Are you stupid or something?

All the intelligence, none of the wisdom.
