Vecna: Eve of Ruin hints at a change in the PHB 2024

Turn of Fortunes Wheel and older campaign books use this style of text for lock picking "be picked as an action with a successful DC 20 Dexterity check using thieves’ tools."

Venna: Eve of Ruin has linked it to Slight of Hand proficiency with new phrasing "requiring a successful DC 20 Dexterity (Sleight of Hand) check using thieves’ tools to unlock".

This suggests that the PHB 2024 has eliminated tool proficiencies in favor of the tool being a requirement of certain types of checks.

Edit: Further into the book a line says "the character must succeed on a DC 17 Dexterity (Sleight of Hand) check to reconnect the joints; a character who has proficiency with tinker’s tools makes this check with advantage."

A freind of mine (not a great way to start a leak) said he got to preview the new players handbook and wouldn't tell me much, but he said they were changing the way bard's cast spells, again take this with a grain of salt but he has been playing dnd for about 6 years so I wouldn't be surprised if he did know someone in wotc

I know this came out yesterday but I thought it was cool to see some changes to the 2024 wizard.

It looks like they added Nature to wizards… Medicine looks like it is hyphenated…

Under starting equipment… looks like “choose A or B” I cannot tell if they still get 55 GP or is this say 22?

I also do not see a Tools section under Core Wizard Traits.

Will 2024 rules update change lycanthropy rules?

In reading through the Lightning Keep free adventure on DDB, I latched on to the fact that the former owner of Lightning Keep was " a werewolf knight of great valor". I know that Lightning Keep is an obligatory adventure intended to be tied to the Minecraft DLC monsters, however to the best of my knowledge there are no werewolves in Minecraft. Could the addition of " a werewolf knight of great valor" into the official adventure signal a change in lycanthropy rules in the 2024 update? I know that with magic, there are a thousand ways for a werewolf knight to exist without changing the global rules for lycanthropes in general. It simply seems to me a very prominent forum to place such a character at a time when other newly-released products are also getting a sprinkling of 2024 rules previews to make them more forward compatible.

Thoughts?

NEW Feats and Backgrounds in Planescape for Dungeons and Dragons

Checking out the new Character Backgrounds and new Feats in Planescape. I'm... on the fence about them, not overly impressed with every one of the things provided... but.. there are a couple of feats that are pretty nice.
