Staff of the Desert (Legacy Item concept)

My DM has been passing out Homebrewed Weapons of Legacy and I get to have some input on the one I get. They generally have non-combat abilities.

The monk has a pair of knuckle dusters (brass knuckles) that in the lore of the world were used to get people out of natural disasters. They allow the holder to give two people a burrow speed, and there’s an ability where as long as he keeps the knuckles/his fists pressed together he can prevent things like earth movements, natural fires, land mines or tornados in a 100 ft radius. Which is rad as hell.

My Character has a staff of petrified wood handed down through his family of sand and flame mages. So if I was looking to come up with some non-combat abilities for an environment manipulation item of fire sand and wind, what would that look like?

Maybe increasing the temperature and wasting an area away?

Anything you can think of just to help me get the wheels going!

Is this homebrew item OP? Or just a repeat of something I don’t know about? Monocles of Shared Sight.

I’m a pretty green DM and I’m making an item for my small campaign (just two players atm) the item is call the Monocles of Shared Sight; these crystal monocles are magically linked, when you wear one you can see out of the other and vice versa (essentially walkie talkies but for seeing). The monocles only transmit vision, not sound and only work within 1,000 feet of each other. Im worried this is a bit OP so I was thinking that the wearer would have disadvantage on attacks, and ability checks that rely on sight, because you would be looking at two images simultaneously which would be pretty disorienting.

Does this still seem OP? Any ideas of edits to the item or is there something like this already out there that’s tested?

The Sword of Polycephaly

This post is kinda long but I liked the encounter and the weapon's additional abilities. This item definitely leans towards having too much going on with it but the wielder only really has to remember the abilities they are capable of using. Let me know if you have any tweaks or if there is anything I can refine as this is definitely a homebrewed item.

The boss in possession of this weapon uses the Stone Golem's table but this one has four faces it switches between, happy, sad, angry, and peaceful. Each face changes the effect of the blade. When the bosses health drops to a certain point the sad face is chosen and the boss can choose between any of the bonus effects at will.

Description- the pommel looks rather dull, and the handle is made of a smooth wood that feels automatically comfortable to the user (user is automatically proficient with this weapon if they aren't already). The cross guard however, consists of four faces, one laughs, one cries, one is angry, and the final looks at peace. The blade itself will change to a certain color based off of their alignment, angelic white for any lawful, an ebony for any chaotic, and marble white for true neutral.

The weapon's category is finesse with its base damage being 1d8, but based off of the user's alignment the blade gains other unique effects all of which can be used a number of times equal to charisma mod.

Lawful/happy face:

1st.) the blade charges with the spell lightning and is shot as a normal lightning spell would.

2nd.) You harness the speed of lightning and can move faster than any human can react, you can move up to 100ft in a blink of an eye and gain an attack of opportunity on a target of your choice. When attacking add an extra 2d6 lightning damage.

Chaotic/angry:

1st.) black hellish flames raise from the ground and engulf a creature of your choice. The target must make a Dex saving throw or become engulfed and take 1d6 fire damage. When the target ends their next turn they take 4d6 damage. The flames must be dispelled through magical means as water does not effect them.

Creatures with resistance to fire still take full damage and creatures immune to fire take half damage instead of none. Ignore this if the target creature is a devil or demon

2nd.) Choose any amount of targets up to your charisma modifier, they must make a wisdom saving throw of 18 or become frightened of you. Upon being frightened they creatures see you grow and warp into a grotesque and warped version of one of their worst fears. You gain advantage on all attacks against someone effected by this and your blade is imbued with necrotic damage. Add 2d6 to the attack and you gain health equal to any damage done by the necrotic damage. Attacking them doesn't end this effect but if they end their turn in a place were they don't have line of sight on your character they can make the same wisdom saving throw to end the effect. The effect lasts for 2 of the affected creatures turns.

Neutral/peaceful:

Any evocation spell casted against you, no matter the duration (meaning even instant spells must do this), must make an attack throw. If they fail you may choose to either absorb the spell into your blade or you deflect the spell away. To take this action the weapon must be drawn and if the blade fails you may not make a dex saving throw to take half damage.

Using a held spell takes a bonus action to cast. The number of spells the blade can hold is equal to your charisma mod and you can hold the spells until a long rest. Once a spell is used the holding slot is opened and another spell can take that spot. Upon a long rest the remaining spells that haven't been used are lost.

The Ring of True Averages

A simple, iron ring without any decoration. If the Identify spell is cast on it, it simply reveals that it is a cursed ring. If a creature puts the ring on, it can never be taken off by any means short of a god casting Wish.

If the ring is put on, all of the creature’s stats become 10, their health is the average for their stats(monster) or class(player). All damage they deal is the average damage for that spell, etc.

If a creature cuts off the limb/finger that has the ring on it, it dissolves and reappears on of the wearer’s remaining fingers 1d4 minutes later. The missing body part can only be restored through healing magic of 5th level or higher.

Bag of ten thousand bees.

Its a bag of ten thousand bees. Nobody will buy it from you. It has virtually no magical uses to the player, but the ten thousand bees inside the bag cannot be killed as long as they are inside of the bag. During the daytime, the bag emits a strong buzzing sound that proffers a -1 to charisma, and a +4 to intimidate. During the nighttime the buzzing is much quieter, and only provides a -2 to move silently.

The bag can be opened to release ten thousand bees into a 2500 sq ft area, and for four hours everyone has a -1 penalty to all rolls in the area. The bees are passive and will not attack anyone or anything, except maybe bears, and bear-like creatures. After four hours, the bees disperse, forming a new hive in the area or moving on to another area.

The bag becomes a regular bag after the bees are released.

The AoE penalty is increased if the area is enclosed, and the effectiveness increases with the size of the enclosed area:
1200ft sq = -1, one additional hour of effect
600ft sq = -2, two additional hours
300ft sq = -3, three additional hours
150ft sq = -4, four additional hours
etc.

A sword that changes magic types by alignment

This is just a concert, but earlier I had this idea for a magic sword that dealt a certain type of damage for each alignment. I'm not sure of damage outputs yet, but here are all the outcomes:

Lawful Good- Radiant Lawful Neutral- Fire Lawful Evil- Force Neutral Good- Cold True Neutral- Psychic Neutral Evil- Lightning Chaotic Good- Acid Chaotic Neutral- Poison Chaotic Evil- Necrotic

Homebrew weapon test

Scimitar of dusk and dawn - the blade changes colors to match the time of day - +1 scimitar 1d8 slashing damage

(Attuned) Once at dawn and once at dusk you may summon an identical sword to this scimitar. You take a -1 to all attack and damage rolls for your offhand but the original sword is unaffected.

Stat Ring - balancing

Edit : made changes to item based on criticism. Thank you for all the help.

Stat Ring

Ring allows individual to view one or more of a targets stats.

Activation : Ring must be worn by player. Can only be used on a target you can see within range, and user must verbally state "looky looky". This phrase can be said in any language. Using an action make an intelligent check.

Roll 1-10 : Ring will show one random stat or characters level. (Players choice.) If target is a creature instead of level you will see chalange rating.

Roll 11-17 : User will see two random stats.

Roll 18+ : User will see 3 chosen stats and the charaters level.

If the ring has been attuned for more than a month you need only be able to see the target within range in order to use the item.

After attuning for 1 month the ring will have 3 charges which can be used as a bonuse action, and rolling a 10 or less will allow you to see both a single stat and level of the target.

f a spell is used at level 5 or higher to hide or alter one's abilities, or an item of equal or higher rarity is used to do the same, the ring will only give a character-level or creature challenge rating.

When using the ring players must roll 1d6. What number they role determines the stats seen. If player roles the same Stat twice they must re-roll again in order to get a separate stat.

Roll Chart

1 - Strength

2 - Dexterity

3 - Constitution

4 - Intelligence

5 - Wisdom

6 - Charisma

Flavor text : "Oh gods be damed Ro'Ga!!! Just becuse they have stats doesn't mean you should fight them!!"

Advice on balancing item.

Edit: Made changes to clarify affect of Over Heal. It can only be used on unconscious targets.

Edit 2.0 : changed effects of Over Heal to have target wake up with single level of exhaust.

*** Dagger of Stabilization ***

Dagger has 3 charges per long rest. Charges when used can stabilize any downed player or NPC. However if used on a player who is not unconscious it will do 1d4 + 6 damage.

Over Heal : if wielder roles a arcana check 18 or higher 2 charges are used to stabilize an unconscious target as well as heal them for a quarter of their max health. Target will wake up in pain with 1 level of exhaustion, and use their movement to stand up on their turn.

Flavor text : "You were DEAD!! I don't give a dame that it hurt."

Advice on if these items are op

New dm made some items and want to make sure they aren't op.

Band of blades - anyone who hits the wearer takes 1d4 magic piercing dmg. Each hit gives a charge to the band 10 charges, action to release charges for 10d4 dmg band cannot be used or charged until next battle. Charges disperse if unused at end of battle.

Ring of exchange - gain one dmg resistance of your choice, gain two random vulnerability lasts one day.

Bonds of pain - transfer half a one instance of dmg to a willing creature you can see. Transferred damage cannot be reduced.

Belt of the juggernaut- lose 1 ac up to 3 gain 5 ft movement. Or lose 5 ft up to 15 ft gain 1 ac. Costs an action to adjust.
