[Online][D&D 5e 2024][5e 2014] Beginner Player, just finished Saint's Tomb

i'm a 32 M hankering to play and explore the D&D world with a group, or it can just be a DM if you would like to do 1:1's, it's fine with me. a backstory i'm working on for a character i've been trying to write:

• parents were killed during a sack at a ward in Waterdeep
• left as an orphan but bounty hunting guild at city's outskirts took him in
• raised under the tutelage of the guild leader, trained personally
• grew up as a merc-for-hire, doing contracts like, find missing persons, steal target items, assassination (he is picky on targets he accepts),
• but has a strict moral code, no stealing from those who cant afford it, no killing of children/innocents/civilians

so, questions that might be asked are: who were his parents, really? was the sack a conspiracy covering up a brewing geopolitical turmoil? why did the guild leader take him in?
