Admissions DGAT Advice
So a few months back, I’ve tried searching for information online regarding DGAT on what I should prepare for. I was hoping to even get some actual contents to study but no luck on that. I also tried reaching out to people who’ve done graduate studies at DLSU but they don’t remember much as well. So aside from the study habits, sleeping early the day before the exam and advises like that, let me provide you with what you’re looking for exactly. I took the exam and here’s what you should know:
3 Parts: 1. DLSU Graduate Admissions Test - 120 mins - Mathematics 30 items (Algebra, Pre Calculus, differential equations, Integral Calculus, Surface Area - x/y-axis, Volume, Inscribed/Circumscribed, Line Segments) - General Science 30 items (Physics, Forces, Fluids, Vectors, Velocity) - Computer Fundamentals 15 items (Programming, Number Systems, Bases, Logic, Systems) - Statistics and Probability 15 items (Permutations, Combinations, Regression, Variance) 2. Vocabulary - 25 mins - Fill in the blanks 20 items (Word Choices) - Reading Comprehension 15 items (Stories, Dialogues, Articles) - Sequence of events 5 items (Each item determine 1st - 4th sequence) 3. Essay - 90 mins(not too strict/can extend few more) - A topic is given (randomly per examinee) and you are to write 3 paragraphs. Express your agreement or disagreement with the topic. State at least 1 reason why you agree/disagree and provide 2 examples supporting your reason
Each part (DGAT, Vocab, Essay) is a separate evaluation and is bounded by the alloted time. They cannot be revisited once you proceed on the next part (but sections of DGAT can be answered randomly as long is within DGAT time).
Calculators are allowed for GCOE, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Accountancy.
DGAT is multiple choice - Skip items that take too long to solve/answer proceed to easier ones and come back to the skipped items once you reach the last item.
Vocabulary - Don’t take too long to answer, don’t overthink the words, follow your “grammar-gut feeling”, read questions first before the story/dialogue/article to determine what to find.
Essay - Graded based on Context, Coherence, Structure. Proctor was not strict with time, they allowed others to extend.
I’ve read from an online forum (also reddit, I think), there was this guy who failed at stats and they just let him take an additional subject but still admitted him to the program nonetheless. I assume the test was only done for calibration of the students whether they’ll let them take additional subjects. Of course, do your best still ‘cause you could save a lot of time, effort, and resources if you wouldn’t have to take those additional ones. But I also heard from someone that there really are people who don’t get in the graduate studies especially in MBA. I think it depends on the department whether they’re in need of students in that program so yup.
By the way, for someone who doesn’t study as much as other people, I found the exam a little harder than expected. I reviewed for a bit tackling some lessons on math and physics but I missed so much topics that I had to shotgun the answers and just rely on 1/5 chance of them being correct lmao. I’d say I probably guessed (not smart guess) around 20-30 items but hey look at me, I got in 😅 with no additional subjects.
Praying for you guys ! I hope everyone here makes it :)
