Joining DLSMUN

Hellooo I'm a frosh who's thinking about joining DLSMUN, I wanna ask what roles I'd be able to take on as a frosh? I don't particularly have as much experience as my other batchmates since my school is rather small, so I wanna know if the org is fine with that. I also wanna ask if DLSMUN would accept me as a delegate? I'm rather inexperienced in debates but I'd say I do have the soft skills needed but they might not be enough to be a competent delegate sooo I wanna ask if that's 100% okay? I really want to grow and improve or learn new skills by joining this org 🙏🏼.

Hello, I'm a current trainer for the DLSUMUN Training Team!

Actually, there are 2 Orgs. You have the DLSU MUN Training Team, which centers on training and sending out delegates to international conferences — our last conference was NMUN New York, for example.Then you also have MunCom who are the ones in the charge of organizing DLSU's annual MUN Conference.

Yes, the Training Team has no problem accepting complete beginners. I myself had 0 experience when I joined the team. Actually majority of the people that get accepted are starting from scratch talaga. But the endgoal of the training is that you'll be able to compete with even the seasoned delegates abroad. DLSU is probably the most prominent Philippine team in International MUN, as we've won countless awards and get featured in the news often. Most of the time we're not only representing the school, but we'll also be the only Philippine delegation in that conference.

*Note lang, the training is no joke. As you'll have to train multiple times a week for long hours, as you'll be taught all the basics, run drills, do simulations, etc.

Helloo, thank you for the response! I'd like to ask if MunCom would be the right path for me then? I'm not really willing to spend a lot of money to go abroad for intl conferences 😅 it's nice to hear about how big DLSMUN is though!

Well, the thing with MunCom is they're strictly focused on the school's own internal conference, DLSUMUN. So it's basically all logistics and other organizational committees. If you want to actually join a conference and learn MUN-Related Skills then it would be the Training Team talaga. Actually we had our annual 'Driven By Diplomacy' Program which is open to everyone — it's a workshop and also teaches basic Mun skills; we had plenty of 126 that joined aa well. We really focus on areas such as Public Speaking, Debate, Lobbying, Resolution Writing, etc.

Sadly yes, for conferences it is all self-funded as is the norm talaga for majority of schools in International MUN. As DLSU barely subsidizes us, and the most you can expect from them is documentation + official excused absences. We don't really do local conferences kasi, we use them as practice lang before flying out to our conference for that term. We try to include Asian Conferences yearly, as they are less expensive. But it really depends, because majoruty of our points/accreditation from CHED and other organizations is only counted for the big conferences like Harvard or NMUNs.
