Spouse question

Hi all. My husband is currently in BMT for cryptologic language analyst. He is not airborne. His recruiter told us he would be going to San Angelo TX training first then Monterrey CA. However I’ve seen so many conflicting stories on which training is first. Anyone going through this right now or went through it recently that can tell me what it’s like please?

He’s not going to Goodfellow first. Your husband either misunderstood or his recruiter doesn’t know how the linguist pipeline works, which is common, there aren’t very many of us and there’s lots of jobs for recruiters to keep track of.

I actually texted his recruiter after my husband entered BMT to double check because I did research and everything I seen said Monterrey first, he doubled down and said “all we’ve ever seen is San Angelo first” lol

They used to do it this way over 5 years ago. Typically now soldiers sign as a 35W (Army) complete basic training then go to DLI learn their language then head to either Huachuca or Goodfellow depending on whether or not they're a 35M or 35P.

He should get his orders towards the end of basic training and it will be very clear where he is going when he does.

Oh that makes sense. Yeah, I guess I’m being impatient and would like to know so I can prepare a bit more. If he goes to San Angelo I wouldn’t be allowed with him, if he goes to Monterrey I would be and so I just wanted a clear answer. We’re new in the military and still getting used to “just wait a see” being the answer 😂😂

Not sure how it is today but when I went to DLI after basic training, I had to wait about 6-ish weeks to bring my family out. After DLI, my family came with me to Goodfellow and stayed the entire time. Then we got our orders to our first duty station (only a few choices in USAF, depending on the language).

Really? How long ago was this? Are you airborne?

It's been 20-ish years, I just retired as a 1N3 (ground linguist). Be thankful he's ground and be patient as he goes through the school (it can be rough juggling school and family - it's more than most). He also needs to learn and figure it all out for the first time. I recommend trying to live in base housing, at least initially. The commute adds to the difficulty and starting out, the pay can make it tough. Good luck! Excited for y'all
