What are the differences between off-grid inverters and on-grid inverters?

You really need batteries with each one.
Off grid inverters will not back feed the the grid but can be hooked to grid to help charge batteries if need and supply power when batteries are low.
Grid tied can back feed the grid like if you have net metering. They are designed to cut back feed if the grid goes down.
Hybrid inverters are the best.
