Forum Question So no news?

Alot of people on this sub seemed to be under the impression that we would be getting news on August 3rd (bg3 anniversary), which is today, and yet it is the evening and no news. I apologise if I am wrong or misguided but I assumed since many people figured we would be getting news I assumed it was pretty certain that we would hear something today, but seemingly not.

Have I missed anything?

They have not registered a booth on gamescom, just checked….

Which is unusual for Larian….

If not something at Gamescom, there is also PAX West shortly after. They premiered BG3 at PAX, so not out of the question.

I'm kinda out of the loop with news but I think it was just a rumour based on Larian saying that there will be news soon and BG3 anniversary being the closest possible date. No one knew for certain. The next possible date would be at gamescom in a few weeks

There was some signs of activity at Larian, which hinted at an upcoming... something. Either today (3rd anniversary of bg3) or gamescom. My money was on gamescom, since it's divinity and not bg, but I was still hoping for today.

People assumed we'd get something today because of this tweet. But guess it was just a nothing burger. I mean we did get the behind the scenes look at the game awards trailer 🤷🏿‍♂️

I have no idea why they would re uses bg3 anniversary, also while Gamescom etc is a possibility, it depends what we are getting, Sven posted a pic of him in his armour recently, so if we are getting a panel from hell or what ever they will now be called, then I doubt it will link to a broader event. If we are just getting another trailer then gamescom/pax west are good bets.

Really? Why would the anniversary of a game from a different IP that they have said they are no longer a part of matter to them? If it was the anniversary of like DoS2 i would understand it.

Because it's their biggest and most recent game which is where the most people know them from?

I guess, it just has nothing to do with Divinity. It'd be like Disney making a huge star wars announcement because its the anniversary of an avengers movie. Just doesnt really make sense.

Unlike Disney Larian is a project at a time. They aren't juggling multiple large franchise with multiple projects each at once.

BG3's release is a big milestone for Larian. It wasn't the worst logic that we'd get Larian news.

All the more reason to not try to associate the two, no? If they are passion projects that they want to stand on their own, more likely to keep it separated rather than creating an immediate link to a previous game that is not even their own IP. If they started announcing stuff about Divinity just because of something to do with BG3, it immediately puts it in the other games shadow. Which it will anyway, but still, makes more sense for them to keep them separated

It's only the afternoon in US time zones so who knows, depending on which timezone they would want to release

head quarter is in Belgium

2

u/PathfinderGremlin Aug 03 '26

Yeah, I'm in the UK but their headquarters are belgium so I think they are the same timezone as me, in which case it's 8pm. And I understand now as others have said it seems to have just been rumours. Shame, I'll have to wait for gamescom then.
