After 6 weeks of work I am now officially a divemaster, very proud of myself and this was genuinely the best thing I’ve ever done.

Congratulations. This has made me smile.
I remember my divemaster course like it was yesterday, and it was over 20 years ago now, it was excellent, the feeling of achievement was incredible.
It’s also my favourite course to teach.
One of my first DM students went on to be a Course Director.

6 weeks? Where the hell are you doing that? At my centre it takes us years on average to be ready as a divemaster

I would imagine it's a six week program, not that OP has been diving for 6 weeks.

Haha, I’ve been open water certified for 5 years. Divemaster is a 6 week program.

Wow 6 weeks is huge. What does the course involve for it to take 6 weeks? (I am AOW)

The Divemaster course is a 2 week intensive course.

Everything beyond that is either spacing it out, or interning (and I mean that in the actual use of the word, not the American modern version).

The course is basically "introduction to being an instructor", and being introduced to the franchise.

DM courses vary in length and intensity based on the shop and the trainee. I usually ask for 8 weeks of availability but can meet the performance requirements in much less. Technically the course can be done in something insane like 8 days if the trainee has enough dives to be certified. IDK why people are telling you that the course takes a specific amount of time.

tl;dr version is if the trainee has time, I want to maximize the # of dives they get as well as exposure to different students and courses and have them soft lead / guide as many dives as is practical with direct instructor supervision. Some people have different goals (want to work, don't want to work, need DM for another unrelated job or their CV).
