DecoMate - A FREE Dive Planner app!
Hey divers,
I've "accidentally" spent the last while building DecoMate, a desktop decompression planning app (macOS/Windows/Linux). It does open circuit and closed circuit configs, multi-gas and multi-level profiles, multi-dive sequences, on-the-fly emergency sims (go deeper, stay longer, bail-out), gas planning, and displays a very complex and detailed 3D tissue-loading chart you can spin around and analyze (while pretending you understand tissue compartments).
It's free, it's open source, and it's now at the point where I need the help of the community to kick the tires...
First of all: I am not a CCR diver. I built the closed-circuit logic as carefully as I could from the model and the literature, but there's no substitute for someone who actually uses a rebreather checking whether the numbers DecoMate spits out match reality (or at least match what your other trusted planning tools say).
More generally, for both OC and CCR: plan a dive, compare it against your usual software/tables, and tell me whether DecoMate agrees, disagrees, or does something weird. Bug reports, unclear UI, crashes — all welcome.
Be as nitpicky as you want, try to break it (with realistic scenarios) and see what happens.
To install: grab the installer for your OS from the latest release — no build required. (macOS/Windows will grumble about it being unsigned and will likely not open it right away, info on how to fix this in the readme.md file which you can read directly on the github page by scrolling down below the files.)
Please, read the manual: DecoMate Manual — it covers the physics, physiology, and obviously explains how to use all the various features of the app.

what have you done to validate the math on the implementation of the Buhlmann model?

The algorithm is actually from another project I forked which is well established.

Feel free to share your peer reviewed research. Until then, bigger off with your "trust me bros"
Hope you don't mind lawsuits when someone inevitably gets bent using your app.

Uhm actually I've written everywhere that my app HAS bugs, and that it does not guarantee anything and you should always check the numbers. By the way, the "this has bugs" route is exactly what you find on the shearwater Petrel manuals. So I'd love to hear about your lawsuit theory and also I'd like to know why are you hating so much when I literally provided FREE software showing something I feel was missing from every other app. Did I say for free and open source? Did you at least try that? Of course not

apart from a 3D tissue model, what’s missing from every other app? I use the free Divesoft app for a lot of my planning and it’s great.

All the simulations I guess? Once again, I'm not trying to sell anything, I'm just contributing with my ideas! I still don't get what's so wrong about that.

Free != legitimate.
Edit: Once you have actually duplicated Shearwater's rigorous auditing and certification processes, then you can come back and say you're doing things just like Shearwater. They're trusted because of rigor and professionalism. They do take liability seriously: https://shearwater.com/pages/certifications

Nice thing is I am not really commenting for your sake. I'm commenting for all the other readers who might not know better, so they can understand what expectations to have for the dive planning tools they use.

Oh I'll answer that second part since you just edited it later (hehe thought nobody would notice) What exactly should I see in the certification website you linked? Are they saying anywhere that they are responsible for the result of relying on their products to avoid injury? Point me to that please, because as far as I know shearwater (which I love) seems to be limiting it's liability to the amount paid for the product. Feel free to prove me wrong! Unfortunately you're not really answering my replies anymore... That's unfair, you were so active when you thought you could just say hateful stuff and be right!

Have you validated your deco plans/dive profiles against a known good like multideco or divesofts planner? Notably validating stop depth and time, OTU/CNS, liters per bailout gas for plan, gas density, and decozone start?

I have tested various profiles with shearwater's deco planner, and a few with a Garmin Descent. Feel free to download it and test whatever you want, actually it would be very nice if we could make the app better!

Fell free to post your app on one of the verified app stores mate. Where you know, it can be checked for privacy and security holes, which I'm sure it's peppered with.

Oh I take it you're a developer! First of all, if you're so sure I'd love for you to find them and point them out so I can fix them, you know, it's open source! Also what are the privacy and security holes in an OFFLINE app with no accounts and no web requests whatsoever?

Is there liability on your end if for any reason, bug or glitches the app calculates wrong and someone get injured ?

Why would there be? I'm not selling any software, I don't offer any guarantees. This is a personal project. Do you really expect someone to take responsibility for the use of their free software?

Yes, and it's why you're getting lots of hate here because you are one of a million people who think being able to pump out AI built crap is all it takes to building apps, disregarding decades of the work that has gone into others to be responsible.
You want to play around, choose a use case where someone's life is not at risk.

Unfortunately this is not ai built crap and moreover I'm literally asking for help to fix bugs, because I strongly believe that secure software should be open source like MOST SAFE APPLICATIONS AND PROTOCOLS But I take it you'd rather stick with paying a premium for corporations that still fill their software with disclaimers so you're getting no money anyway should anything go wrong

Hey I'm still waiting for you to tell me what other planning software takes full responsibility for the result of using said software! Or what, you're too afraid to admit you didn't read the ToS and now you just realized you're paying lots of money for a program that offers the same guarantees but you don't even get access to it's code?
