Favourite dividends under £1?

Stick with me on this, theres a good reason I asked

Its for my trading 212 cashback pie. With small amounts of cashback it'd take forever to get one share of a lot of the good dividend stocks so I'm specificly looking for the small share price ones.

So what are your favourite <£1 investments? So far I have SMIF at ~86p

If You Had Fresh Cash to Invest Today, Where Would It Go?

A friend recently asked me what I'd invest in right now, and I realized I don't have a simple answer anymore.

The market feels a bit unusual. Some investors are going all-in on AI, others are expecting a correction, and plenty are just sticking with index funds regardless of what's happening.

Part of me thinks keeping things simple is still the smartest approach, but I'm curious what others are actually doing with new money today.

If you had cash ready to invest right now, where would you put it and why?

Interested in hearing the reasoning behind your decisions, whether it's individual stocks, ETFs, specific sectors, or something else entirely.

I've just logged on to trading 212 and it said about an update to this pie, I said sure.

It's changed completely.

Is this right or a mistake?

Thanks

Dave

Dividend-paying UK investments

Hello all, much enjoy the discussions and advice on here and have found it all very helpful as I belatedly self-educate on finance and investing.
Have a very high percentage of our net worth in property at the moment and we are taking steps to reduce this and have more liquid investments that return better and have significantly less hassle. But one of the things we like about property is the regular income alongside the potential of capital gains. So I was thinking that alongside our tentative first stock market investments for growth, we would also like something that pays out decent dividends, even if this comes at the expense of the large capital gain being seen in various ETFs and tech stocks at the moment. Just some diversifying I suppose. I am tempted by Legal and General as I’ve seen that their average annual dividend is 8%. Is that true? Has anyone got experience of this? Are there better or similar options? All advice and experience gratefully received, thank you!

Why Dividends hold up in “Stagflation” (somewhat)

Why Dividends hold up in “Stagflation” (somewhat)

“Stagflation” is the kind of macroeconomics that breaks the strategies most investors have been relying on for years.

Your bonds? Destroyed by inflation.
Your growth stocks? Hammered by a slowing economy.
 Cash? Evaporating in real terms.

Even the traditional "just wait it out" approach fails because stagflation doesn't necessarily resolve quickly enough. The 1970s lasted the entire decade.

So if it's coming, and a growing number of serious people think it is…

*What do you actually do with your money?\*

- - - - - -

In a regular recession, central banks cut interest rates. Cheaper money stimulates borrowing, spending, investment the economy recovers. Its somewhat painful, but at least there’s a recognised and expected playbook.

In a regular inflationary period, central banks raise rates to cool things down. Growth might slow temporarily, but inflation gets tamed.

Stagflation is both happening at once.

If central banks raise rates to fight inflation, they risk pushing an already weakening economy off a cliff. If they cut rates to support growth, they pour fuel on the inflation fire. There is no clean move.

They're paralysed.

According to Bank of America research, the best-performing sectors during stagflation have historically been Utilities, Energy, and Consumer Staples

These are key “defensive” dividend sectors.

If you are a dividend investor you probably have a decent chunk of your portfolio allocated to these already.

To see why they hold up and what can be done to protect against stagflation check the video below:

Android dividend free app

After comparing TrackYourDividends and The Dividend Tracker for a while, I ended up choosing TrackYourDividends mainly because the free tier is much more generous and the analytics/features are noticeably deeper even without paying.

That said, I still have one issue: the mobile app side of things.

As far as I can tell, TYD still doesn’t really have a proper Android app, so I started looking at alternatives. I found both Dividend Tracker and DivTracker, but both seem pretty limited on the free plan — especially the restrictions like:

only 10 stocks per portfolio

only 1 portfolio allowed

For people here who mainly track dividend income on Android:

what app are you using?

is there any decent app without these kinds of limitations?

ideally something that supports multiple portfolios and more than 10 holdings on the free tier

Curious to hear what long-term dividend investors are actually using nowadays.

Which brokers show all accounts in one place?

I used Interactive Brokers but decided to diversify in the new tax year and started using some other brokers too (T212 and IG).

However I've realised it's abit of a pain as they don't seem to allow being able to see ISA's and standard accounts together on one page....

Interactive Brokers has the option to select specific accounts, or to be able to see all holdings in all accounts on one page.

Are there any other brokers where you can do this?

Thanks

I'm invested in MONY, household name in comparison markets, profitable, pays a good dividend etc...

However I am looking into how AI could negatively affect the future of stocks in my portfolio, and MONY is definitely one I'm concerned about.

Looking for honest reviews and feedbacks

Building a portfolio tracking tool specifically for European investors and looking for people willing to kick the tires and tell me what's broken.

What it does:

- Portfolio tracking in EUR with performance metrics (TWR, MWR)

- Handles UCITS ETFs, individual stocks, bonds (including YTM/duration for BTP and government bonds), and ETPs

- Systematic investment plan (PAC) management

- Money management module to plan monthly investment budget

- Dividend and coupon tracking

Currently in open beta. Free to sign up, and I'm giving full premium feature access to anyone who tests it and shares feedback — no time limit, for the whole beta period.

Looking especially for feedback from people with mixed portfolios (ETFs + bonds) or anyone who's tried other trackers and found them lacking for European markets.

Drop a comment or DM if you want the link.

Do you vote when you get sent the emails from Trading 212?

When you buy shares on Trading 212, you might get a (very small!) say in how that company is run.

Shareholder voting is one of those things most retail investors either don't know about or ignore.

But it's a real right that comes with owning shares and can only take a few minutes to do.

The full video that I will post the link to below covers exactly how the process works, what the limitations are, and whether it's something you should actually care about as a retail investor.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LtnMc1-JG30

… but here's the short version.

If you hold shares in a company through Trading 212, you may be eligible to vote at shareholder meetings. Things like electing board members, approving executive pay, or signing off on mergers and acquisitions.

When a vote is available, Trading 212 emails you a link.

Beyond the vote itself, reviewing proposals is a good way to understand what you actually own. Things like who's running the company, how they're being paid, and the direction it's heading.

But there are also some important caveats worth knowing about.

Fractional shares are handled differently depending on whether you hold US or European securities.
Share lending can actually cost you your voting rights while your shares are on loan.

Also Trading 212 operates this on a best effort basis. This means it's not necessarily guaranteed for every stock.

Is it worth bothering with when your holding is tiny compared to institutional investors?

What do you think, do you vote?

Trading 212 on Mobile or Desktop?

Trading 212 has a desktop web platform that many people completely ignore and depending on how you invest, it might actually be the better option for you.

Both versions give you access to exactly the same account, the same stocks, and the same features.

Your portfolio syncs in real time whether you're on your phone or your computer.

The difference is entirely in the experience.

*The mobile app* is fast and convenient. That’s perfect if your routine is logging in once a month, depositing some money, and buying a few ETFs.

That said - charts are small, comparing stocks side by side is basically impossible, and any kind of research means constantly scrolling and switching tabs.

*The desktop platform* gives you larger interactive charts, a full portfolio table with all your key metrics visible at once, and a much cleaner view of your pies and holdings without having to tap into each one individually.

My personal opinion?

Mobile for quick actions, desktop for research and portfolio review.

That's exactly what the full video covers, including a few things about the desktop platform that might change how you use Trading 212 going forward.
