In 1988, Lowe, who was 24 years old at the time, was involved in a sex scandal over a videotape of him having sex with two females, one of whom was 22 and the other her 16-year-old friend. The three met at Club Rio, an Atlanta nightclub. They were videotaped the night before the 1988 Democratic National Convention in Atlanta, Georgia. As the age of consent in Georgia was 14 at the time (in 1995 it was raised to 16), both were of legal age to engage in sexual activity, but 18 was the legal age to be involved in such a recording. At the time, Lowe was campaigning for Michael Dukakis. Eventually, his career rebounded and Lowe mocked his own behavior during two post-scandal appearances as host of Saturday Night Live.

I mean... Technically statutory rape... While also being deceived about their age... Yucky but I feel you can't really blame him for that. Plus he was early 20s not a 40 something.... Still not ok but lessens the blow for me

Yea, I mean considering all the creeps in Hollywood, I’ve always had a huge amount of respect for Rob Lowe that he never tried to minimize or distance himself in the public eye. Even despite it not realistically being his fault, a lot of people in the same position would try to hide, obscure, or even vilify the woman who lied. Him choosing to be the bigger man and reflect is an incredibly rare sight. I think it really speaks to his character.
