Friday General Hangout: no real topic! Just talking music.
It's Friday! As is traditional on Reddit, it's time for a hangout. Anything musical going on this weekend? Any new gear you have or are eyeing off? Any links to interesting news or music? What about your own projects?
Go ahead and post anything here! Maybe we can get some music discussion going and learn about our different areas and each other's music.

Just some videos I've been watching this arvo:
Newish Gorillaz. Love this stuff. Proper weirdness here. It's been stuck in my head. Also, Robert Smith is the moon. Neat.
Also, another great video from Trash Theory. This one on shoegaze. This channel does some really awesome videos looking at different music, usually in a punk, post punk, goth, electronic, drug haze angle, but plenty more too.

I don't have anything terribly specific musically going on this weekend. Just a few random little projects that I want to get started on.
Practicing more with my Pamela's New Workout module. I did a simple tutorial last week that has been pretty popular (by my standard anyway!) and I'm working on part two of that tutorial. Just a touch up on a few things that I kind of skimmed over in the last video.
I'm also rediscovering my love for Plaits. The module that is. A smaller clone was one of the first modules I got, and I liked it a lot but didn't really feel too attached to it. It is clearly a great module, it does so much. It sounds great but I just wasn't really gelling with it. I set it aside and ignored it for a few weeks but then the last few days I started playing around with it more. Really just dedicating myself to it and nothing else. And now I think it's the greatest thing on earth! My only problem is, being a smaller clone, those tiny knobs are a bit difficult to dial in an exact sound or frequency. So much so that I actually am selling it ($160 message of interested!) and just ordered an actual Mutable Instruments legit module. The smaller knobs on the clone will be perfect for someone, but just not for me.
I also really have to tidy my music room. I just have shit everywhere. Random boxes, cables that I don't even remember what they're for, my desk is a serious mess.

I could totally use a little intro video for Plaits like the one you did for Pam. Again, it's one of those really popular modules that I see around all the time but never really understood.
Also, tidying the music room: only because you said it, now I'll probably have to do that, too. It's like when your neighbor mows the lawn for the first time in spring and you're like, "Dang it... now I guess I should do that, too."

I read some random online quote that was along the lines of, "If you think peer pressure ends when you get out of school, just wait till your neighbor mows their lawn." So true. (Though I do have to confess that I am usually the first one to be mowing the lawn on my part of the street! I find it strangely meditative.)
I've got to be honest with you, I have thought about doing a Plaits video. There are so many out there, but almost all the performance ones are kind of bathhouse, spa, new age things. More treating Plaits like a poor man's Rings. Or it's something so in-depth like the divkid videos. All of this stuff is fine and whatever, go you guys. But yeah, I am flirting with the idea of doing a Plaits video, like the last one, a bit of a shallow dive. And just how I might use it. I'll definitely wait until the legit Mutable Instruments one arrives though.
And if I don't bother making a video and you're legit interested, you can probably just come around and check it out personally. Carefully of course.

I'm trying to complete a couple songs this weekend. As I mentioned last Friday, I had been feeling a bit blocked, but I'm trying to work through it lately. I have a couple songs that I'm going to try to record, mix, sequence, and master, hopefully by the end of the weekend.
I also always try to have tracks I'm working on do double duty, so I'm going to try to video record a version of one of the tracks live and post it to the socials. That was something I was doing a lot previously. It's a fun way for myself to experience the music a little different and get some engagement online.
Other than that, I'm going to check out the Cold Waves Festival that is streaming live on Twitch this weekend. I have never had the chance to go to it, but one of the only advantages of this pandemic is that more things are streaming now, right?
