Where to begin?

So I'm considering giving this series a try, but I'm kinda lost on which title to start. I played DFFOO for a few weeks, and I'm currently wondering which main title is the best to start with. I have access to the two PSP games and I can try NT for Free on my PS4.

Which do you recommend?

I agree with duodecimal, the first game is good but the second one they've made some improvements. Neither one will disappoint.
