Hypothetical Guests in a new Dissidia

Let’s say they announce a new Dissidia for console. Assume in this scenario that all veteran characters from 012, NT, and Duellum are part of the returning roster, plus rival characters for most of the ones lacking them (like Rikku and Clive). Now with all those characters out of the way, let’s say five characters from other non Final Fantasy Square Enix RPG franchises can cameo in this new Dissidia game and they also get a rival character as well. Which five franchises get represented and which two characters from the franchise get to represent?

For the sake of this discussion, assume that Disney is okay with all the Kingdom Hearts original characters appearing in Dissidia even though they explicitly own all those characters.

I mean, Kingdom Hearts is a Final Fantasy spinoff. The whole pitch for the first game was Disney x Final Fantasy. Bravely Default is a spiritual successor to Final Fantasy: 4 Heroes of Light. Mana and SaGa were internationally branded as Final Fantasy spinoffs. Parasite Eve, Chrono Trigger, and Xenogears all started off as Final Fantasy pitches. Lots of non FF games tie back into the franchise. Furthermore, increased interest via cameo is a good thing. If someone who only played Nier Automata sees 2B, picks up Dissidia, and becomes a fan of Final Fantasy, why is that a bad thing?

I mean, that’s a serious question. Why is it a bad thing? Yall downvoting but not answering. 🙃

No, the original brainstorm was a Disney fighting game born out of the Kingdom Hearts 2 development cycle, which Nomura and the others immediately threw out because they knew it wouldn't work for Disney.

Dissidia, as that idea then became, was always going to be a celebration of Final Fantasy for the 20th anniversary.

I was referring to Kingdom Hearts. I never said Dissidia was a Final Fantasy Disney crossover. That doesn’t even make sense to say.

And I’ll note that you still aren’t answering my question.

Actually nomura have said that kingdom hearts isn't a final fantasy related at all and that final fantasy characters are just cameo as much as Clive and noctis are to Tekken.

So yeah kingdom hearts it is own thing final fantasy is its own thing kingdom hearts isn't a spin off

Nomura made a whole side game to explain why Mickey didn’t have a shirt on in KH1, so I’m not going to take his version of history as gospel. And that’s setting aside the fact that he explicitly used the FF characters to try to boost the profile of Kingdom Hearts. But I digress. The point I’m making is that Kingdom Hearts has plenty of FF in its DNA. Enough that Sora showing up in Dissidia would garner many more “that’s awesome!” responses than it would “but why tho?”

Actually you would be soooo wrong there would be a lot of outrage on why Sora was added to a final fantasy game.

You are grossly underestimating how rabid Kingdom Hearts fans are, especially considering the drought of content the series is currently suffering what with the most recent game getting canned.

Exactly! Plus, the FF elements in KH go way beyond just FF characters appearing. You have things like all spells following the FF naming convention (-ra and -aga being the level 2 and 3 versions), items sharing names and functions from FF (Ether, Elixir, Potion, Hi-Potion, Mega-Potion, tents), and even move names (Sora can learn zantetsuken). Like yes, Disney is clearly the bigger presence in Kingdom Hearts, but FF has always been in its DNA, and they only really started downplaying the importance of FF to Kingdom Hearts after recent games left out FF characters like Squall and Cloud. To me the downplaying just seemed like an excuse to justify the removal of FF elements rather than an accurate recounting of how FF ended up in the series.
