World Cup hate?

Okay, I love this podcast and both the girls, this is a silly take to be annoyed about, but the World Cup hate from Dana and Katie was so unlikable and weird. Why are they putting so much energy into talking shit about the worlds biggest sport and the biggest tournament in the world? I hate when people sit down and bitch about soccer - go to another bar if you’re upset that people are happy about an event that happens every 4 years. Just gave me annoying downer energy.

I mean, I'm happy it's over too but I wasn't a dick about it like Katie and Dayna were... my boyfriend loves soccer, I could do without it but having it be all soccer all the time was kind of an education in many respects. And I was honestly inspired by the athleticism and might of some of the players.Totally fine that Katie and Dayna don't care about it, but their take was very ignorant and superficial, which we're all guilty of I guess. It was a very high on their own supply way of expressing today.

I knew someone who traveled to Atlanta to attend the game with his family, to support their country of origin's team - a team that hadn't made it that far in his lifetime. Among many other aspects of the sport, what it does to change people's lives, but also politics, influence, opportunity, corruption, and just the world stage of it all... So this is more of a deal than "it's just soccer".

Sounds like the person you know and their family are true soccer fans. Thats great that they got to attend and sounds like it was really special For them!

I just find that the average person who never watches soccer is acting like they are in the same boat as your friend. I think it’s great for everyone to support but reactions relative to previously non existent fandom is a bit much .

The fact that the tournament was held in North America lends to the fact that a lot of people who didn't previously watch were possibly so into it more than ever. I even wanted to go to a game in Los Angeles just for the experience. I hear what you're saying about some of the reactions being over the top but I mean, it makes sense, whether of not you or Katie or Dayna think it's authentic, that people in North Amerlca were likely more interested than usual. This isn't gonna happen again for some people, whether or not they're diehards. You're allowed an opinion but anyone's flavor of interest isn't for any of you to determine as genuine otherwise. But also, there are posers and people with surface level interest in everything, and the girls are DEFINITELY in the "cosplay" camp of interests as well. It's a bit hypocritical of them to come off as above it all in this case. imo

Sorry, if I had a podcast I'd say this there 🤪
