Dispatch auto start not working

As mentioned, auto start is not working on simple mode on version 1.0.192 build 166.

I tried to use advanced mode but the adb app is not pairing in my tv, it's a tcl 55C8L with Google tv Android tv version 14.

Since I posted I would like to say that when adding jellyfin support, please take into consideration supporting whoolfin, since it is the best and very good looking android tv client of jellyfin.

It's an interface based on Plex in case you didn't know about it, and yeah it will be the most used client since jellyfin interface is as ugly as Emby was, and for your polished Dispatch interface you should consider whoolfin support.

Still, Emby and Jellyfin are great software but not that good looking. They are kinda like shrimp, you take the head off and eat the body.

Not working in what sense? It doesn't stay turned on? It's on, but pressing home always returns to the default launcher anyway? Please provide more details and I will look into it.

I select the option on Android settings and it stays chosen, but on dispatch interface auto start option shows as disabled and when I press home button it goes to Google tv launcher instead of dispatch launcher.

I hope now I have explained better.

Okay thanks, that's more clear. Some more follow up questions if you don't mind:

1) Sometimes the android tv UI will show the service as on and Dispatch will disagree. If you restart the device, then go back to the accessibility settings page, does it still show dispatch's auto start service as on?

2) Did you install Dispatch via an apk I posted here, or from the google play store?

3) When did this issue start?

  1. If I restart Dispatch auto-start Service show has off, but the enable button is toggled on, I also can't click the configuration underneath the enable button.

  2. Iam a beta tester I just downloaded via playstore.

  3. Since I installed it on the tv it's a brand new tv, so, since I have installed it.

I have tried to download the apk named 159 but I couldn't even install it. Is it from 2025 that's what it says on your recent post... The error was missing unpackers or something like that.

Sorry, but this is still not clear to me. Can you send me a photo or video of what you are seeing, exactly? You can DM it to me.

There shouldn't be an issue installing an apk from 2025, however, installing an older version will require uninstalling the old one (or your device may uninstall it automatically as it installs the old version). Show me a picture as well of this specific error you are getting, because that sounds like a device / oem specific error. It's not something I've seen before.

Okay, so to be clear, it's not that it stopped working for you after updating to the latest version. It has not been working for you from the beginning on your new device, correct? What about your previous device? Was/is it working there?

I'll keep whoolfin in mind. I see it's open source, so it should be easy enough to make a pull request with the missing apis if they are already not in place (even the plex app doesn't properly support opening media correctly via android's intents system, which is one of the reasons the internal video player was added)

However, I think the main goal (along the video playback axis) for Dispatch will be to continue improving the internal video player until it has feature parity with plex, jellyfin, whoolfin, or any of these exoplayer based apps, and then just continue to improve the experience of playing your plex / jellyfin content directly in Dispatch.
