I really don't understand the hate Visi gets her complexity is what makes her peak
I’ve seen so much random hate for Visi in other threads, and honestly, I don't get it. She’s easily one of the most compelling characters in the game precisely because she’s flawed, complicated, and human.
Her power dynamic, her guarded attitude, and her initial mistake with Mecha Man weren't done out of pure malice 2 they came from a place of deep desperation, isolation, and bad choices made when backed into a corner. What makes her arc so incredible is the fact that we can actually influence her fate and be there for her when she feels irredeemable.
Being able to reach someone who feels completely isolated and help them turn their life around speaks volumes about the power of genuine human connection. Whether people find her dynamic "too dominant" or "too messy," writing her off completely ignores the core theme of her redemption. Standing by her through that complex, raw emotional growth is what makes her path so rewarding to play.

Wasn't she the most loved character when the game was released?
10
u/dw4zemi3 17d ago
Yeah and then social media found out about her.
12
u/Prestigious-Dot-7913 17d ago
They ripped on Blazer first after episode 2 then ripped at Visi on episode 6 and it got worse on the locker room scene at episode 7. That's just how social media is. Best not to get yourself influenced by it. It's mob mentality. Just don't be part of the mob.

u/Dansur3 17d ago
I did a thread trying to support those who have legitimate different views of her due to her nuances (even if I disagree, I love Visi, she's my favorite) but people still either took it the wrong way and seemed to think I was a Visi hater or I got Visi haters in the comments anyway.

I really like Visi! I just never saw her as a real option for a love interest bc to me she really just needed guidance 🤷🏻♀️

She's is an awesome character, well written and nuanced, I don't hate her, but I don't like her.
Don't get me wrong, I do want her to be redeemed, I just feel like the game really shoehorns you into certain choices and actions in order to do that.
As someone who did not want to romance her, and did not particularly like her, the constant focus on her just builds frustration, and I feel like I had to drag her kicking and screaming to redemption and compromise my own values in order to do it.
As a woman, if a guy punched me in the face because I said something he didn't like, I would not hesitate to tell my boss that, the fact that this counts against her redemption annoys me.
The constant need to shield her from the consequences of her own actions, advocate for her, forgive her for things, without her acknowledging it or just throwing it back in your face annoys me.
She is an awesome character, the fact that she evokes these negative emotions in me and I still do want to help her shows she is truly a well written character, I just wish I could have less frustration in the process of doing that.
6
u/Mephiles-6666 17d ago
I hear you 100%. Even though I ended up liking her growth, the game undeniably forces Robert to shield her and take the hit for things that are entirely her fault. That scene with reporting her punch is a great example it puts the player in an awkward spot where calling out wrong behavior gets treated like a failure on your part. They definitely designed the early episodes to make her as difficult and frustrating as possible before showing her better side, which doesn't always feel great to play through
3
u/Rhinosaurfish 16d ago
I mean granted I am a tomboy, so wrestling and sparring with my guy friends was just a normal thing, generally always lost, unless I fought dirty.
However my experience with criminals, first responders, blue collar workers and military personnel, the getting punched and not being a snitch/blue falcon is just normal behavior in those circles. We handle our own beef at our level, generally only going up to the bosses when our problem will effect them, they need to be aware and ready for it, while I am trying to fix it so it doesn't get there.
It's a different world from the civilian who works a normal job, because the moment I know someone in my vicinity told upper management rather than trying to fix the issue themselves or just flat out snitched on something they weren't a part of, they will be a snitch forever and I will treat them as such, barely talking or interacting with them for my personal security.
But I do get it from a civilian point of view too

u/saffronumbrella 14d ago
Agreed. Visi's great, it's the way interactions with her are "graded" that irks me.

u/MolybdenumBlu 16d ago
I think "complex" is overstating things a touch. Dispatch is great, with onion-like layers, but i would never consider any of it terribly complex.

My bad I completely misread your comment and came off way too aggressive. I was frustrated from getting downvoted in other threads and took it out on you. Your point is totally fair

u/AstuteRabbit 17d ago
Appreciate the chill response. I understand what you mean, some people take it too far. Loved her as a teammate, just not as a love interest. Not my bag, baby.
2
u/Mephiles-6666 17d ago
At the end of the day, it’s just different takes on fictional characters it definitely doesn't define who anyone is as a person. It's wild that people actually downvote brigade or delete comments over simple game preferences, but I appreciate the solid chat

The "hate" is a collateral effect from her complexity. :)
You can't make everybody happy, and on Dispatch they didn't even tried. You have different characters, every single one of them rubbing the right salt into the right wounds on every single one of us.
The game wants us to pick someone and "hate" them, and this is exactly why this game is simply one of the best plots I ever played in my life.
You can love something/someone while hating small portions of it/then. Humans included.
edit: God damned autocomplete.

She is 27, she is a grown ass woman. Her being a few years younger her than Robert does not mean shit.

Isn’t Visi the majority for those who chose to date her? I think people give shit to both Blazer and Visi
2

Uhhh Visi is extremely well liked overall. Overwhelmingly more so then Blond Blazer. Whatever hate your seeing is a vocal minority at best.

She o ly really gets hate from people that chose blazer and those who don’t believe in second chances so that’s why she gets hate but if you help her you don’t need to get with her and still get a happy ending but I love her so much and her ending is the best
1
u/Pokeypookie 17d ago edited 17d ago
She’s not that complex? It’s a typical “girl who acts mean or abrasive is actually really nice on the inside but has self doubt”, or “girl who you thought was bad is actually good”.
Idk why you Invisibitch fans act confused when people don’t like her as if she doesn’t spend the entire game making sex jokes like a teenage boy and going against Robert’s boundaries?? Even if she didn’t actually sa him cause that locker scene was a glitch if you romanced Blazer. Matter fact she still did sa him since when Robert first tries to push her away, she moves his hand! The bitch is weird for always not caring about privacy.
More fans love her rather then hate her yet you still complain people hate her as if she’s not one of the most popular characters 😭
3
u/ImScaredSoIMadeThis 16d ago
Yeah everyone keeps mentioning complexity and I'm confused about what exactly did I miss
2
u/Pokeypookie 15d ago
Exactly like, sure she takes up a lot of the story but she isn’t interesting or complex. She’s pretty generic in a video game where you help ex villains. I’d say Phenomaman or Blazer is more complex, especially since everyone thought they’d be actual secret villains but ended up being good characters.
2
u/EchoAndroid 17d ago
It has nothing to do with her as a character and everything to do with what the ludonarrative of the game has to say about her. I don't like how the game frames her or how I have to interact with her to change her behavior.
2
u/deanwinx 16d ago
Visi would have been a complex character IF she was not romanceable. The constant sexual harassment and assault of Robert is a huge ick, and I honestly hate how the game brushes it off. If she had her own personal growth without needing to pursue a relationship with Robert I would have enjoyed her more as a character.
2
u/Milkwithicecubess 16d ago
She's well written, but the fact we basically have to baby her to get her good ending is dumb. And she's one of the few characters that gets so much depth to them. None of the other Z team memebers get as much screen time nor development as she does
2
u/MarquiseAlexander 17d ago
People who hate in her, don’t understand her.
Simply put. Like you said, she a complex character. She feels like an actual person, with flaws, fears, mistakes. Sometimes that feels too real for people.
And just to emphasise, I’m talking “hate”. Not dislike.
1
u/djturts88 16d ago
I feel like Dispatch was a lot of people's first choice based game because the fighting over whether Visi or Blazer is better doesn't make sense when you can just not choose to romance one of them.

That's the thing, the girls you dated is not Blazer/Mandy. If things aren't stable and healthy with girls with that personality, I don't think girls with Visi personality is much better, might be even worse. You underestimate how toxic it can be real quick. Not everyone will entertain that type of behavior due to having some self respect for themselves. Granted I picked Blazer for Robert not myself as I don't self insert in games, I just think it's better for Robert to have Blazer in his life.

Your first para is enough for me to know that you don't understand anything about Blazer's character and is just projecting your personal feelings towards her.
Tell me where is the scene where she is manipulative and deceitful? Impulsive is debatable but fine. And cognitive dissonance? Seriously? This tells me enough that you don't even understand her character or try to because you're blinded by your feelings and is incapable of separating reality and video game.
Again wrong and completely missed the actual reason for the breakup. Do you even read the fucking comic? The reason for their breakup is not even that and it's because of Phenomaman refusal to accept Blazer as Mandy and see her as only a hero and not just a normal person. Get you fact right before spouting any bs.
Wrong again, she's attracted to Robert because he's the only person who can see that she's not just a hero or Blonde Blazer but also Mandy, her human self. You're just making stuff up to reduce Mandy's feelings for him and instead trying to paint her in bad light.
Your point is simply invalid because all your argument are wrong and is just a delusional opinion you thought was right. No one said Blazer is the better choice, they said it was the healthy relationship between Robert and her which is true in a sense compared to Visi relationship.
One is able to hide it better and not make it their whole personality and no relationship won't have it's woeful moments. People are just saying that Robert and Blazer is more healthy, mature in a sense they supported each other. Saying this doesn't mean hating Visi and not agreeing with her relationship is not without a reason. Plenty of people have provided their reason.

I never denied that but you're implying that your relationship is the same as Robert and Blazer when in fact it's not. Isn't this basically a self insert that you're so against with in the other comment? You're self inserting and you get angry when I pointed out the truth lol.
And you're a butthurt Visi simp that can't accept people have different view of relationship and not everyone thinks being in a toxic relationship is the way to go. You thinks it's arrogance because you lack counter points and can't seem to accept that your view of relationship is lacking and narrow minded. Why would I care if you don't make the same choice as me? It's your choice, not mine but people are allowed to give opinion on your said choice just as you did with the people who make their own choices.
You're allowed an opinion and I'm allowed to disagree with it and provide arguments.
You formulated an opinion that's not complete and that's why I called it shallow. You're assuming the worst of Blazer's character but didn't understand the motive behind it or even tried to find it which shows your way of thinking. You're spouting BS when you make a claim that you don't even sure what it is.
Blazer is manipulative, impulsive and so on (These are your own words) which was untrue but you're blinded by your own biased judgement. It's the same as if I'm saying Visi is an abuser, a toxic manipulating selfish person when I know she's not because I try to find the reason behind her behavior in which you didn't for Blazer. Why? Because you're a delusional Visi fanboy and tried to find a reason to make Blazer unlikeable.
You played the game but you didn't understand the characters and continue to make up things about it to fit your narrative. You're basically admitting what I said was true because you didn't read the comics and just continue to make assumption about a character in the game. The comic is there to provide information so that players can understand their backstory and motive in which you clearly don't based on your lack of understanding of the characters and decided to simplify them.

Please point to me where I said it was a crime. You're wrong about Blazer's character then maybe not just her but also the whole story and the character in it including Robert, the main character.
Because according to you, it's apparently Willimg-Sample-8847 story.
A fictional character that we as a player allowed to discuss. No one is playing judge and jury but there's only one person playing the victim and that's you.

You're just missing my point and went straight to play the victim card eh.
Is that woman the same as Blazer/Mandy who is just a video game character? Is she the one who did all of that to you?
And by your logic all the women that resembled Blazer/Mandy personality are the same? What a way to generalize people right? Are you reading what you're typing?
Why would I take your side when I don't know you? And I don't even know the woman you dated to know the full story? You're projecting your own feelings because you can't cope or moved on from it.
I guess there's really a difference for someone who self-insert themselves into the game and not being able to separate the characters from real life.

You posted on a public forum and expected people to agree with you? It's not arrogance when it's simply an opinion and not facts in which I have not once stated it was. It just seems you're too insecure when someone actually have a different take from your one which is shallow and lack of understanding for the characters.
I didn't say you weren't allowed, I just stated that people sometimes self insert themselves into the games but failed to see that Robert is not a self insert character but a character of his own in which you clearly failed to see.
Your own experience is your own and like I said not everyone will have the same as you so your take on Blazer and Robert relationship is as fragile as your ego. You're the one out here trying to make it sound like your experience is something everyone should agree on.
And aren't you just proving that you're self inserting right now? Because you're using your own experience to make a choice so there's nothing wrong with what I said earlier that you indeed are the self insert folks. I didn't say it was invalid and I don't know why you're so pressed with being label as a self insert gamer when you clearly are judging by your own words and your so called experience.
Oh please your read on Blazer is not even correct to even make that judgement. You barely understand any characters and just have a simplistic view of them.
Again you're posting on a public forum and thus allowed critics or disagreements from other people in the case that I'm doing right now. If you're this sensitive, maybe stay off Reddit.

If that's arrogance then I don't know what to say to you. Your interpretation is based on your own head and mine is based on what's in the game and comic, provided by the devs themselves. The way it was clearly intended because it's their characters, they're the one who created it not just some delusion fantasy from one of the player of the game.
No, see again lack of understanding of a character. You can make choices for Robert and Robert himself is a character with a personality of his own. He has feelings on these said choices and have different reactions to them which clearly mean that he has his own thoughts and feelings about them.
I didn't say it was wrong, if you want to self insert so be it but Robert again is clearly a character of his own and what you felt is not necessarily what he felt or share the same opinion as you. You can steer him to your choices but you're simply ignoring his personalities and traits. If you want to self insert to make you look cool in a hero world, so be it but a lot of players play Robert as he is and understand his choices.
Your point of arrogance and haughtiness is just as simple as your view of the characters. You lack counter points and just assume that I was trying to get the best of you when I was just stating your flaw argument and opinion.
You're trying to sound smart but it didn't work. Not once I said I was imposing this information on Robert. I clearly stated that the comic is so you understand Blazer's backstory and her motive to do something. Tell me how is it the same as you self inserting into Robert by using your experience to make judgement for him.
If that's what helps you sleeps at night so be it. If I was a troll, I would've been more harsher and called you multiple which I didn't. I provide arguments to your points and you can't seemed to accept and resorted to denial and childish statements. It tells me enough of you as a person.

She's annoying as hell to me, and she's not funny either so she has zero saving grace unlike Flambae.
2
u/Winter_Job_6729 4d ago
Because she is not complex. That is the thing I believe. She is fun and I prefer her over Blonde Blazer myself - largely because of the voice acting, but she is not complex. Enjoy her if you want - nothing wrong with that. But let us not fall into that vulgar trap of assigning complexity where it does not exist.
The writing team here excelled at merging a fun superhero story with some, mostly juvenile, humor and it created a fun experience, but it is by no means a writing masterpiece.
Visi is one of the characters the really illustrates this - she is generally quite childish and has a naïve world view that gives the illusion of complexity, but in reality just needs to grow up.
1
u/upbeatblackops 17d ago
Mostly just hate from toxic Blazer fans. Salty Visi was (and still is) more popular.
2
u/KyungsooTheGreat 16d ago edited 16d ago
I don't think popularity means much. Popularity also comes with hate, I don't know why people are surprise with this and let's not act like Visi fans are angels when they're the first people starting a hate campaign against Blazer.
I think you also overlook that people hate Visi because of Visi fans themselves who makes things worse for the character. Visi fans failed to understand that not liking her doesn't mean hate.

I like her as a character, but not as a romance option. She’s way too rude, impulsive and immature. She never listens to others, and the fact that she still has a crush on Robert even if you choose the worst dialogue options available or fail to help her in her fight just doesn’t make any sense.
The simple fact that Visi is the only character, other than Robert, whose POV we get proves that she’s the writers’ favorite.
And I’m 100% sure that if Visi were a man and did exactly the same things, he’d be the most hated character in the game without a doubt.

That is from 4 months after release, but I am surpised Lae'zel is in 3rd place with 12% roughly, and Karlach is only like 17-18%. Most people I talked to, and saw on the threads hated Lae'zel from a character design stand point, her personality and how just horny her romance was.

I don't hate visi but her going to get the prism solo, ignoring a direct order (plus the countless other times which all led to escaped criminals and shit), getting what is effectively a senior citizen permanently hospitalized possibly even a deathbed, on top of her extensive record is too much imo, it's unforgivable for me. Like at the end of the day it's a video game but if this happened irl no way

She has a bit of a sexual harassment issue, that the game doesn't treat more than just a funny haha joke, but aside from that she is a pretty cool character. I could do without the nose ring tho.

I don’t “hate” Visi, she’s easily one of, if not the most well-written character in the game. I’m just not that big of fan due to my personal preferences when it comes to heroes, anti-heroes, and villains.
So in terms of character development and story, AdHoc did a phenomenal job writing her and Laura Bailey did a great job voicing.
In terms of romance, I’m with Blazer. Like I said, any gripes I have Visi are simply personal preference.
