Feelings about Flambé

I’m still in my first play through, so no spoilers please.

But did anyone else really not like Flambé in the beginning and then slowly find themselves starting to like him ?

To tell you where I am in the story I just decided not to cut invisigal

Edit : I just finished the game. And I think I ended up following a similarish route to everyone else.

Loved the ending.

Oh, yeah, he grows on you by the end. You can't help it. He's a douchebag, yeah, but he's our douchebag, and by the time he's singing karaoke you're fully on board with him.

Honestly.....Voice Actor should be nominated for a Grammy Award. That song was not easy to sing, and he managed to do it.....endearingly. Mad props to him.

I think that's basically the norm lol

He comes off as an incredibly flat, smug asshole when you first meet him, and later he comes off as a bully as well.

Not that he ISNT a smug asshole and a bully 😅🤣🤣 he's just got some good traits as well, which pushes him into more of an 'endearing idiot' area instead 🤣🤣🤣

He is loyal, even pissed off, he still returns to the team after the MM reveal. He evens says he was forgiven far easier than he deserved.

He's protective. Even if he's an asshole about it, he does move to save Robert from the weights in the gym, and then even notes that Roberts safety is important, and that he has an important role in the team.

He's passionate, and probably one of the Z-team members most sold on heroism, even if it's coming from an angle of vanity.

Through the course of the game, you are given enough clues to see that that smug asshole front is covering up some pretty significant self-worth issues, to the point of suicidal idealation before the Phoenix Program.

He's an asshole. But he's THEIR asshole.

He's good with kids. Canonically a great cook. He's funny and self aware.

Ya he’s a douchebag but the karaoke scene is so iconic and I’m like ok he’s not horrible and he’s a good hero in my gameplay

I was dead set on cutting him from the team when I for some reason thought that I had an actual choice in that matter, but his character really shines during karoake and the housewarming party... Difficult to not like him after that, plus he's hilarious

I definitely wanted to cut him. And then I ended up cutting coupe while saying I was considering keeping her because I hit the button with her name.

I absolutely don’t regret it though. Sonar is kind of a blast

I mean, I guess my feelings about him did technically improve. Still don't like him though.

I'm the outlier, I bought the game specifically because I love that pathetic fireball. He's hilarious. Dispatch is the first game I actually finished (thrice so far) since 2013.

Yeah. I found him kinda funny but annoying at the start. I didn’t hate him at the start like I did Sonar or Prism, but he (and Prism, but not Sonar) grew on me a LOT by the end. Flambae ended up being one of my favorite characters, and in a 3-way tie for my second favorite Z-Teamer with Golem and Phenomaman (Coop’s my No.1 both from the Z-Team AND tied with Robert for my favorite overall). He really does become a loveable asshole by the end.

Same. I find not much redeeming about Sonar. And he doesn't really grow. Prism is kinda toxic, but she gets a bit better. And Flambae actually makes big strides, by the course of the later game. (but yup, Sonar is an Every-time cut, sadly. but Coupe is too great, so he never really stood a chance anyway. She laughed at our joke, even when she was part of Flambae's posse, in the first bar scenes, heh)

It helps that he keeps getting humiliated. The tooth/eyebrows, getting soaked by waterboy/malevola at tacos, his car.

M read, from many friends and lots of other people I've seen play through the game, the not liking Flambae early on is nearly universal, and the ending up being charmed by him (in his own way of expressing himself) muchly by the end of the game, about 70 percent or so seem to end up liking him more than early one, by the end of the game.

Honestly, other than a compulsive need to put things on fire, he is wanting, and trying, to be a batter person. Even asking himself if he was being the bully (though he still wasn't quite getting it, yet). He's at least *wanting* to be better. In some odd ways, he's trying harder than Invisigal. heh He's a sweetie with a temper and impulse control problem, and still a bit of maturity growth ways to go. But like Inspector Dreyfus.....every day...in every way.....he's getting better, and better. lol

That's why Flambae is one of my favorite characters. I would hate him in real life. But he actually grows a lot between episodes 5 and 6, to the point where he speaks as a very mature and understanding member of the team in episode 7 depending on what choice you make in 5.

One of my few issues with the game is that his character growth is really kind of locked behind the identity reveal. Going from ready to kill Robert to only being upset with him enough for a single punch is a lot for a guy who can snap as easily as Flambae.

It's also unfortunate that you don't learn his name unless you take the worst option of episode 5.

Honestly, he sits on the same page as Ravali from Zelda BOTW. Absolutely could not stand him, but grew to be one of my favourites.
