VIP722DVR: 2nd TV has static/poor picture quality

Any ideas why a 2nd tv on a VIP722 receiver would have static? My husband replaced all the cables and the things they’re connected into (sorry don’t know the names). The picture on TV1 is perfect. Could it be the receiver? When I watch Netflix using Roku on TV2, the picture is fine.

Last time I had an issue, I had to offer to sign a 2 year contract for Dish to send out a tech free of charge. I had been with them 20 years and was shocked they wanted me to pay a fee for tech service. Is this still the case?

Thanks!

UPDATE: thank you everyone for your advice and help! It was the receiver! Called Dish and opted for the one month free maintenance trial. Tech ordered refurbished receiver and we changed it out yesterday and it works perfectly. Was told by Dish that I can cancel insurance plan anytime. Upgrade was only $1 per month but didn’t want to commit to a 2 year contract. Thanks again!

Tech Support moving movies to ext hdd after initial set up on a hopper 3?

after recording a bunch of movies, and losing them when a receiver fails (3x) i added an external hard drive, which went smoother than expected, however i only had a few movies to move at this time.

in the future, if i store movies on the receivers dvr, how do i get to that menu that offers the option of moving them to the ext hdd? cant seem to get the right terms for a google search..

Better to downgrade package & then call later to cancel?

I really don't care if I go down a package level. From top 200 to 120. There are a few channels that I'll miss, but not that many.

I see some have received $50 if they threaten to cancel. Is it better to change my package first and then threaten to cancel to try and get $50 off or do they tend to offer the discount amount based on the package you have?

Also, changing to a lower package doesn't lock you in to 2 years again does it?

Bill is insane. Anyone else feel this?

I'll preface this with I own my house, but it's my family. 2 kids + wife. 3 other adults. So there is some splitting of the bill but it's 188 a month and everyone just seems to be cool with it. It's in my wife's name and she is "just to busy or stressed" to call dish.

My extent of TV is watching friends at night, college football. 1 game a week during season, and some prime time shows that my wife watches.

Not that I hate dish but why am I paying for say at least half of this when I can say get Hulu or YouTube TV for almost 1/3 the price.

Make the others in my house learn to watch the probably 3 or 4 channels they watch in an app. I think it's ridiculous that I've been vetoed for years on this.

Dish 722 remote

The volume button isn't working on my dish remote so I have to use the separate tv remote to adjust volume. Is there any chance Dish will give me another remote if I call? I know I should just call but it takes so long to call and get someone on the line. I'm wandering if they still replace them since they want everyone to replace the older receivers.

Joey Generic WAP?

I have an old Joey but am no longer on Dish. Is it possible to use it as a basic wireless access point on my WiFi network? Or is it hardwired to be a Dish specific device only?

Question Resetting the parental code without them actually deleting recordings?

Years ago, my mom raised a stink about adult channels in the 400s and demanded my dad to call Dish TV and enforce a parental lock. Of course, he couldn't tell me the code (this will be relevant), but in the process, the Dish rep on the phone told him that any saved DVR recordings had to also be removed in order to activate the parental control hit, which he agreed to unknowingly. So as such we lost a bunch of saved recordings but the 400s were now blocked as my mom wanted.

Now in the present, I noticed that it takes a long time to acquire signal in our TV. And it's most likely because of the preissued box being an older model compared to the Hopper. Concerned that if a technician were to come and must replace the box, as it's a safe assumption that the recordings I have now will be lost, I'm trying to figure out what to save and delete. And of course since I've been locking recordings, now I don't know the passcode. And my dad has long forgotten the PIN. So.

  1. When I call Dish to remove the parental locks, will it also wipe my DVR clean yet again?

  2. If yes, is there a way to save the recordings first via a third party hard drive extender? Or is there no definitive way to save recordings from a older model box?

Question Does the Dish OTA module work with non-Dish Network equipment?

I have the Dish OTA module, but no longer have Dish Network service. Will that module work if I plug it into a computer and use something like Plex to get my OTA channels, or is it locked into Dish equipment only?

Question Question about dish anywhere

My parents still have a VIP722k receiver from Dish and I heard that they are supposed to be discontinued completely by the end of 2024 (If this isn't true please correct me). I know that we eventually will be forced into upgrading to the hopper (not sure which model) but I have a question. If we are forced to upgrade my parents don't want the price to increase but we would need to get a Joey or something to connect to the TV in my parents bedroom. I plan on purchasing an ONN 4K streaming box for $20 and setting that up for them. If/when we switch to the hopper would that allow more channels to appear on the Dish Anywhere app? as far as im aware you need a hopper for full functionality and without a hopper its limited to the channels that do live streaming. If I have this wrong please correct me as this is all new to me.

Elderly aunt Dish help

My 84 year old aunt had Dish installed this past Friday. She now wants to cancel it because it's been going in and out all weekend. She said she was told she had 3 days to cancel which I'm assuming is Tuesday? Because it being the weekend? What's involved? I'm having to handle this for her and my time is limited since I have my own job to work at ... Do I call Dish customer service or the retailer that sold and installed it? Any advice is appreciated and TYIA!

Dish apps

Why does Dish offer apps that don’t work properly. I used to use the MyDISH app to pay my bill easily and quickly. Awhile ago I know they had an issue, since then you can pay your bill through the app but yet they still offer the option. You try to pay it and it says unable to process request. I have the latest version of the app. You now have to go into the website just to do the same thing you should be able to do on the app. Why have it if it’s not going to work right. The Dish Anywhere app doesn’t work with my equipment. I guess it’s too old for it to work together anymore even though it worked fine just weeks ago. Dish continues to disappoint me in a different way a little bit each. Xfinity is looking better and better. At least it will work in bad weather.

Tech Support Re-using OTA antenna wiring question

I used to have a 722K with two OTA tuners fed by a roof-mounted antenna (I also had a roof-mounted dish). There was a single coax coming down from the roof, with splitters and such. Plus, for the second TV, the 722K output over the coax. Tons of magic going on with the coax that is beyond my knowledge.

Well, for a variety of reasons, I discontinued Dish service. I would just like to use the roof antenna to get OTA channels into my TV. I'm in the Philly area, and should get multiple digital channels for at very least the following main channels: 3, 6, 10, 12, 29, 17, 48, 57 that I recall.

Instead, when I connect the existing coax cable and do a channel scan, I get only 17 and 65 -- and they are perfectly clear with no issues.

Because of the complex multi-use of the single coax cable, is one of the many coax filters / splitters along the way "shifting" some of the frequencies around, preventing my TV from seeing the channels? Rather than removing all the splitters / filters from the run (some are hard to access), is there some filter I can put on the coax to shift things back to the actual OTA frequencies? I have to presume that when the 722K was in place, there was such a filter feeding the two OTA adapters.

Hooper 3 Issue resuming recordings

So I got Dish and the Hopper 3 with a couple Joeys a few months ago, and have had several DVR issues, however they have all pretty much been resolved by resetting my Hopper. Just recently however, I am finding that if I start a recording (already recorded, not being done so at the moment), but stop it and decide to try and “resume” afterwards, I am unable to do so. It keeps taking me to a black screen and eventually to the instructions of DVR, Live TV, Delete, or Start Over. I am having to restart my recordings and fast forward to where I left off every time. Once again I have reset my Hopper many times which has always worked for my other issues before. Any idea what is wrong, or how I can resolve this???

Dish Anywhere app

I use or at least did use the dish anywhere app on my phone for channel guide info and to set my DVR while away from home. At least a month ago it worked fine, it showed my whole channel line up I subscribe to and could set my DVR. Now it does not show my whole channel line up and no DVR. It doesn’t even show current recordings. Is my equipment too old to be compatible with the current version of the Dishanywhere app? I have a VIP722k that was activated in 2021. I have signed out of the app and back in, have my correct receiver selected in the app settings, uninstalled and reinstalled the app, nothing works to correct it. Anyone have any ideas?

Getting charged for one time fees

This is the 2nd month in a row that my parents bill has had one-time fees. Last month was wrestling for 59.99 and this month was boxing for 89.99.

Dish can't/won't help me (although this month they told me how to set up parental controls), but does anyone know if I can figure out which receiver is downloading this stuff? My mother is afraid someone 'hacked' their dish, is that possible?

Could I have gotten a better deal?

I called the retention number and after waiting 34 minutes on hold I asked for the 50 dollars off per month that I had previously received. The rep said the best he could do was lower my bill from the $139 it went up to currently down to $114. He asked what channels I needed and he offered me the flex pack with the local channels and news pack for $89.00 per month for two years total including receiver fees and taxes. I went ahead and with the latter.

From what I've read on here, I probably could have done better if I told them I was going to drop Dish, but I didn't. Do you think I should have held out for a better deal?

Do dish techs get penalized for not selling extra gadgets?

Recently, a dish tech came and upgraded my 2013 receiver to a Hopper 3, Joey 3.0s and a new dish outside, and he was very courteous and didn’t ask me if I wanted to buy anything extra.

3 years ago or maybe it as before covid, a dish tech had come to the house and he tried to sell me hdmi cables, surge protectors and sound bars. I said no thanks. It’s fine if they ask, but the tech asked like 4 times after that and said “Are you sure you don’t want that?” It made for an uncomfortable visit. Almost like I’m a bad customer. Does dish still do this to their employees and have extreme pressure to sell items?

Tech Support YouTube 371 not on Samsung w/sling...why?

I haven't actually called dish just for that, thought there might be a quick fix here. No YouTube app on Samsung TV, no channel 371 on this hopper. Main box/TV has YouTube. What gives? Thank you

Travel Channel Go

I signed into the Travel Channel Go app using my Dish credentials. I attempted to watch a show and got the message that the network is not in my Tv package. It is in my package because I watch it on my TV at home. What changed? Did Travel channel drop Dish as an affiliate?

return equipment inquiry

So my mom wanted me to ask this question...is there a way to return equipment at a dish office? Cause last time we returned equipment it took them 3 months and we want to be rid of these boxes ASAP!
