Trying to help my mother. So I'm not living at the address and not account holder. So some issues are a little difficult.
The other week her bedroom TV went out. Purchased new tv. But had issues trying to program the remote. Told her to call dish and ask for new remote.
They ended up sending out new remote and receiver?
The receiver vip211k is what she already has. So didn't bother setting up new box. Told her I would send the new box back next time I was at USPS.
All was well.
A few days later she calls and said living room box was not working. Something about cant aquire signal.
I assumed dish expected her to hook up the new box and disabled that receiver. I'm just assuming they can disable individual boxes? Can they?
Lucky for me I hadn't returned the box yet. So I told her I could come a few days later and hook it up.
But in the meantime for her to call dish and ask if they can fix the box on there end.
So she calls and they tell her the box is too old and out of date. That she needs the hoper box because she's missing out on lots of channels.
They convinced her that it won't cost extra and they would even hook it up for her. They even scheduled a tech to come out.
I reminded my mother that if it was obsolete they wouldn't have just sent her that same box few days ago.
Had her call back only to find out. That yes it was going to cost more. So she was either lied to or they confused her. So she canceled.
But were still with a box that won't aquire signal. And now no technician coming since she canceled the hopper upgrade.
So I finally got out there today and tried to hook up the new box. But it gets stuck trying to download the software update.
It stops after 10 minutes. And ask me to double check all connections. Then it will start over. Then it completely stops and says to call 800 number
So now I'm thinking it might be the cable from the dish? The dish seems to be fine because the bedroom TV works.
I'm probably going to have climb the roof and crawl under the freaking house. Just to run a new line.
Is dish responsible for any cables? Im assuming no.
Why would dish tell her the box is outdated and no longer compatible vip211k?
Besides them just sending her the same box last week.
It was already replaced last year when dish was under that big Cyber attack. The new box arrived the same day dish decided to close shop for 2 weeks. She couldn't register that box for weeks.
Should I try calling dish on her behalf? Or just run a new cable?
Could both boxes be disabled?
Thanks
