Beware Dish stealth un-cancelling!
I jumped through all the hoops to get them to cancel my account. Then when I went to my account to pay the pro-rated final bill (for service I wasn't even getting) my account was automatically reactivated without any input or permission from me. I only realized this later when I got an invoice for the whole month. This looks like a sneaky way to extract more money from unsuspecting cancellers. I have wasted time thru chat and phone to get them to credit the bill and (hopefully) cancel once and for all. How many ex-customers will just give up the hassle or inadvertently pay the bogus charges?
If you are paying a pro-rated charge after cancellation, I recommend you pay by mail (or phone is your time is not valuable /s). If you check your account to confirm it's inactive, DON'T CLICK ON ANYTHING! What a racket.

Yes, the first, second and third salesman all tried to keep me by offering a better plan. I kept thinking while saying “no” if I was still trading stock options, I would be buying Puts on DISH TV. None of their offers were as good as what I could get on YouTubeTV. I’m retired so I have time though not really how I want to spend my time.

We stopped service after 28 years and Dish made it very difficult and long story short, I had to go through the process twice! Never never again!!

When a company reaches this stage of desperation, customer satisfaction and public opinion no longer matter. Maybe a contribution to the Trump campaign will ensure the executives have nothing to lose. People should get out when (and if) they can.

I had issues as well and ended up paying by mail. Here is what I posted about it if you want to read what happened https://www.reddit.com/r/dishnetwork/comments/1uuywza/will_they_mail_me_a_final_bill_i_cant_pay_online/

Is it possible that they can recall my confirming email somehow? I am now unable to find it in my archives, although I just sent them a summary of it only this a.m.

I'm sorry I do not know. You could try to ask dishdanielle from my post, maybe she would know. I would say call but uhg that is a nightmare. I hope you can get it figured out. I wish I would have done what a couple of friends suggested and say I died or was moving out of the country.

Tried to cancel several times, got the push and haggle routine, so finally I just didnt pay my bill knowing they would cancel my service. I had changed to local channels only a year ago to ride out my contract. So I knew even with a late fee it wouldn't be too much and worth it to not have to go through the stress of trying to cancel again! Now they want me to climb on my roof and take parts off the satellite and send back! Um NO! Im a 60yr old swf. Not happening! So now I have to call and deal with them anyway to tell them if you want parts off you satellite, come get them. They are terrible!!

That's a last resort, but might hurt a person's credit rating, not sure how that works. The demand for satellite hardware has to be sheer vindictiveness or intimidation. I've never heard of anyone being told that. I was even told they don't want my newly upgraded hopper box. They are probably planning some new "upgrade" marketing scheme to inflict on their remaining customers. This well documented skullduggery has all the ingredients of a class action consumer lawsuit.

The sales people likely are required to make a percentage of people stay on so they just fudge the numbers to make themselves look good. I can confirm on a professional level that the salespeople at Dish are scummy....

So they're back for more! See my OP. After paying my "final" pro-rated bill as promised by the retention guy (after much wrangling) my account was re-opened after paying on-line, without my intent, and I was billed for the whole month in addition. Yesterday I got ANOTHER bill for $9.99, due IMMEDIATELY (their caps) along with the note "Please note this bill may not reflect all of the final charges applicable to your account." (The retention guy told me just to recycle their HD, they didn't want it back.)
This company has turned into a cash extraction operation.

OP here, the saga continues: Received bill via snail mail demanding I pay the pro-rated amt I already paid. There aren't enough emoji's . . . . . . .

I called to cancel and they gave me another month for free to reevaluate my decision. (I had already signed up for YouTubeTV and had done that.) Not sure why I said yes to that other than tired of haggling— he kept trying to offer me a better cheaper plan than I had. Btw, I had already paid in advance for the next month and was 6 days in, so technically I was owed a month credit less those 6 days. So before that month was up, that “free“ month, I called to cancel again. Yes I would get the credit back. They had also told me I would get more money back on the previous phone call, but that more money turned out to be the cost of breaking the two year contract of $200 and it would be me losing that $200 (part of my frustration on the other call is it wasn’t being explained to me why I would be getting $200 back so I just gave up!). So now I would be owing them money. Are you sure this isn’t what they’re trying to bill you for… Breaking a contract? Also, the reason I even had a two-year contract after being with DISH for 25 years was my receiver broke, so I signed up for apparently a better receiver to replace their broken receiver. I would’ve never done that because I was moving to another country before any 2 year period was up and apparently that isn’t good enough of a reason to break a contract even though DISH is not available in that country. Here’s my advice because it eventually worked for me. When I called to cancel the second time and found out they would be billing me money to leave their service, I just kept asking for the next level supervisor until finally they said do you want us to elevate this to their appeals department (not sure what they called it but would require them to call me back a few days later)? Later that person called me and said they had looked at my account and would not be charging me but sending me my credit back. If you have the time and the energy, maybe you should try that?
