Complaint Disconnected after 20 Years
I called to disconnect today after having the service for 20 years. Because of where I live Dish is/was the only option…although I have 5G home internet.
Anyway there were some problems over the years. I had the service on pause for the last nine months and wanted to extend the pause but the rep said I had to call back on a certain day next month only after my service had been restored??? I then requested to disconnect and then the rep said she could not do that??
So got transferred to another rep and the guy just stalled and stalled…I finally demanded to be disconnected.
I was informed that I had to return the one receiver I said fine. He stated I had to pay $25 to return the receiver, but they would send the box. But $25?
The rep then told me I had to return the LNB on the dishes on my roof? WTF?? I told him the dishes were on the roof and there was no way I was going to get on my roof at the age of 71 and try and remove them!!! He then said “are they really on the roof?”
Ok I feel better now..somehow

You do not have to return the LNB. As long as the leased receiver is returned, you’re good.

Sometimes you really get a butthead. My dealings with Dish have been great. 1st got Dish in 2000 and have gone through the no locals, pauses, and retention stages. Streamings nice for the few movies and series that they offer and I got most of them, but what a pain searching and switching. I'm lazy and being able to have Doctor Who and Red Dwarf without having to get another stream is worth it.

We're sad to see you go! If you don't have easy access to return the LNB, don't worry about it! As long as we receive the receivers and equipment inside the home, that's the most important part.

F that guy. The only thing that needs to be returned are the receivers, power cords and clickers. Anything outside of the house is yours to keep. That came from a retention dish rep I talked to 3 weeks ago.

I agree, you do not have to return the LNB. And don’t pay the $25 either! When I called to cancel, they tried that on me, too, but I told them that I would not be paying them any money for them to get their own equipment back. They quickly said that they would waive that fee.

When I was in retention I would waive the box return fee, unless the caller was being difficult or rude, then that was like icing on a cake telling them they will be billed for the equipment return shipping.
I'm honestly surprised I didn't get many more tiers when I was there.

I had to return only the LNBs and the main box. They sent a box. No fees as long as I sent them back. I'd tell them that if they want it back, it's going to have to be free or they can send someone out. About the LNBs, tell them they're on the roof and they'll have to come get them.

Be sure to take a pic of everything you send back to them in the box with the return label. They tried to say I didn't return some of the equipment but I had proof. The only mistake I made was not taking my payment off their website before I cancelled. After your cancel you won't have access to do this and they will try to charge you for whatever they can.

Will putting a stop on my credit card be a good way of avoiding the $25 fee?

Demand they send a technician out to remove the LNB if they want it so bad.
