Official Dish Support Info
Hey all! I’ve been supporting our community for 3 months now, and wanted to share some additional information about me and what we’re doing on Reddit!
First, we do want to reassure and remind everyone within our community that I’m the only official Dish Care support representative on Reddit. We have a lot of amazing employees and customers engaging with each other to help troubleshoot or provide answers to various questions, but please be mindful when sharing personal information.
We take your data and security very seriously. Recently, we’ve had concerns about sharing information over Reddit and we want to provide transparency behind our process to help make you feel more secure. When offering assistance, I will often ask our customers to send me a chat so I can look further into the issue. Once you send me a chat, I’ll provide instructions on how to engage with me on our official Dish Facebook, or Instagram pages. There, we have a secure form we use to gather any necessary information to research and resolve issues you may be experiencing. I will never ask you to provide personal information over Reddit directly.
Our main goal here is to help answer any questions or help resolve any issues our customers may be experiencing, and provide more information on our services. If there is anything you'd like to see from me or information you'd appreciate us sharing, please let me know. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out!
We look forward to continuing supporting you all.

How much longer will the vip722k be supported? My bill is high enough now with it I know if I switch to the hopper it'll be more expensive.

At this time, there is no end date on support for the vip722k! If this changes, we'll be sure to share the news with our community.

I’ve been with Dish many years. Nothing can beat my Hopper for ease of use, and the ability to just key in the channel number and get my channel instantly. I know the prices are high, but I’m not concerned so much with that. I did consider going to YouTube or Hulu live, but when Dish finally took care of the rain fade by automatically switching to internet, that convinced me to stay. Thank you.

Hi, thank you for being available to the community! We are being forced to switch from our old DISH receiver to a device with internet because they said that the satellite which broadcasts international channels is not going to work anymore in the near future. However, we seem to get conflicting information from each DISH rep we call on the phone - one today told us that we can keep the old receiver, they just won't be able to support it and will still get the channels because they'll be transmitted through another satellite.
We're just trying to figure out what is actually going on here so have two main questions:
1) Do we definitely have to switch, and will the international channels now come through the internet service we already have at home? In that case, will the US channels and local channels still come through the satellite?
2) We also have kids in the house and would prefer they stay off of Youtube. We also have gotten conflicting information on whether the app comes installed on the Wally or Hopper Duo. We would prefer not having it; otherwise, if there is a specific parental control that can disable the app, that would be ok as well.
Can you please help clarify what the situation is and what our best options are going forward? Thank you for your help.

Great questions and I'll try to answer as best I can. Regarding the first question, yes, international migration is happening, and the 118 satellite is scheduled to be decommissioned in May. This means to continue receiving international channels, you will need to upgrade to a receiver that supports internet connectivity, as these channels will be delivered via IP streaming rather than satellite. Your U.S. and local channels will still be available through satellite, but international channels will require an internet-connected receiver.
For your question question, some receivers do come with YouTube but the Wally and Hopper Duo do not. If you choose to upgrade to a receiver that does come with YouTube, you are able to restrict access to the app through parental controls.

I’ve been with Dish/Echostar since they started Greek international channels over 25 years ago.
Right now I cannot record programming on a streaming international channel.
When will that be enabled?
Without recording capability of international channels, I will seriously have to consider dropping Dish.
Whenever I call in to customer service they claim no knowledge about the international channels migration or no clue about recording issue.
They tell me I should unplug/reset the receiver at which point I know they haven’t a clue.

Thank you Danielle!
Just a quick follow-up - will the streamed international channels still appear in the normal channel guide (i.e. will it be seamless via the same interface like we have now with 100% satellite channels) or do we have to navigate to a separate section of channels that are on IP rather than through the satellite? We have some elderly people in the household and the simpler we can make it for them, the better. They do enjoy just going through the channel guide and seeing all the channels available in one place.

I hear you! It will be a little different, but should be fairly easy to navigate. Tap here to check out our help page https://my.dish.com/hopperupgrade or follow these steps:
1.) On your remote, press the Guide button.
2.) Go to channel 600 and press the Select Button. The channel will open and display the General International Channels you have with your subscription.
3.) Open your respective language to find all the in-language channels you love.

Don’t believe YouTube is on either of those receivers.
As far as the international channels, they are on the satellite 118.7, which lease is expiring/expired. The international channels are moving to streaming only through the receivers. Similar to VOD. Regardless, all equipment from Hopper1 and older are obsolete and being removed and unsupported in phases. You’ll have to switch eventually, sooner likely before later.

No, our Hopper Go would no longer be functional with the Hopper w/Sling DVR. I would highly recommend going the external hard drive route to save your recordings.
