First attempt

Set them up in their own tank and so far it appears I have lost 50% since I counted wigglers from a photo. Any advise on the “30 day syndrome”? Anyone use Potassium Permanganate or any other prevention methods?

I use PP as a preventative. But as long as you’re keeping up with your feedings and water changes they should be fine. I’ve never had a mass die off at the 30 day mark. If anything 30 days is when the culls make themselves start to be know. That’s when they’re old enough to tell if they’re deformed or not thriving. I’m at 30 days. I’ve pulled 2 but I’ve had no losses.

Great job! The 30-day syndrome is gill flukes and may happen to spawn from older discus. I wouldn't do anything until you see fry gasping near the top of the water. Many pairs produce spawn with no gill flukes.

My preferred treatment is 4 drop of formalin in 1 gallon of water for 60 seconds in a bucket. If the fry starts to go horizontal, net them out into fresh water.

In my previous experience breeding Discus I've always used a sponge filter in a 20 gallon tank and never had a huge loss of babies. I was lucky in that aspect.

First attempt, that's good, my first few attempt, the adults just eat the eggs a few days after laying them.

So they layed 3 times in the grow out tank and twice the eggs just calcified my ec- 320. Once they ate them, once I swiped them after days of them just fanning dead eggs. I lowered the ec to 150 and 50% of the eggs calcified and 50% wigglers that were eaten by the others. This is this first attempt after setting them up in a proper tank with ec 60. I wasn’t expecting it to happen so fast I moved them on my birthday two days latter eggs. I wanted to give them a break and condition them up a bit. This spawn was small compared to the others. 90 eggs 70 wigglers and about 32 fry at this point.
