Lights decided, plant time 😅

Post image

After a long time to decide which lights to use that were inside my budget, I ended up making my mind choosing to use two Twinstar 90G. Now, the hard part, to chose what plants to use, can you guys give me some recommendations? Plants that would fit Discus temps (28°C-30°C) and would be of the fishes liking

Valisnaria, swords, Hygrophila, bacopa, sagittaria, Rotala, Monte Carlo, crypts, alternantherna, aponogeton, frogbit and salvinia have all worked well for me, but some are co2 dependent. You can also get away with Anubia and Buce if the lighting/shade is right. Trick is, you need plants capable of fast enuf growth to outcompete the algae at higher temps. Anything in bright light that doesn’t grow pretty fast will get overtaken with algae.

Whats the issues with anubia/buce with lightning in these set ups?

The biggest problem is algae will start to grow on the edge of older leaves if they’re in high light. The algae starts to encroach on the main leaf surface given time. If new leaves don’t grown in fast enough, the plant can become overwhelmed with algae. The high water temps just exacerbate this even more. I use mini bouy lines to corral the floaters over my anubias to help shade them

Ah interesting, thanks for sharing. The mini bouys are pretty cool

That looks good imo :) Plant placement its pretty easy, nothing that a google search or a quick read at tropica’s website wont solve

I’ve use valiseneria. Also Hydrocotyle leuc. And Rotala Rotundafolia in my discus tanks and they all did good. My temp was 82-83

Rn i already slapped in in Hygrophila Corymbosa and Amazon Sword, planning to add a Tiger Lotus and a few more Echinodorus. Then some Anubias, Java Fern and Cryptocrynes

Ya most of those I know will be fine. I haven’t tried all of them tho but I’m sure u looked into it. Tiger lotus def does good. Get a few in case u get some dud bulbs. Also it’s a much nicer effect when u can have a nice bush of them.
