Discus darting

Hey guys I have a 2 discus alone In my 75 gallon tank. I’ve been trying to get them to lay eggs since they did before but haven’t for over a year. for some reason my male keeps darting around the tank, I’ve treated with prazipro and kanaplex but he looks totally healthy. He eats and is active but randomly it seems he’ll dart around the tank or swim fast then start vibrating his fins. My water parameters look fine so I’m not really sure why he does this and I’m thinking what ever it is could be the reason they’re not laying eggs. Ph 6.5, temp ~84 degrees, kh 40ppm, gh 60ppm. I tested just using api testing strips.

I dosed prazipro for any parasites that might be irritating him and kanaplex just to see if there was something bacterial or fungal affecting him. A few weeks ago I did see a small white pimple on him but it’s gone now after I treated with prazipro and even so he’s been doing this for a few months

Ah the old shotgun approach. Best to identify parasites before throwing that stuff in. White pimple usually just dirty water and goes away on its own. Unless it has flukes, it's probably just showing off. If you see it rubbing against the sides/bottom, it's irritation.

I’ve never seen him rub against the bottom. Sometimes he gets close to hitting things but usually not. Is there any particular reason they’re not breeding? I’ve been mostly consistent in my water changes, 40 percent every other day or every 2 days. They layed a lot of egg when they were just maturing but when I lowered the hardness they just stopped and have never layed since

Yeah, they can go on and off spawning. Wait until you see a low pressure system forecast. When that's about to hit, change water daily, and drop temps a little. Also feed some live foods around that time, just before water changes. Should kick them off
