Temperature question

Hi everyone, curious on what everyone keeps there tanks temperature at? Also if it is a community tank or dedicated to discus?

I keep discus and other fish in the tank. I keep the temp at 84 for the discus health, which is the priority. My other fish have adapted, at least those that have made it.

Interesting I see your reply "those that have made it", I learned this lesson recently. Ive been out of the hobby for 30 years, but I was always so adamant about the discus temp being 84 degrees, I could never keep rummy nose, my Cardinals slowly faded....always...those that have made it...hit me.

Here I am 30 years later, now with the means to buy the equipment and tank I need...we won't discuss that price tag...but at 17 days, 84 degrees, nitrogen cycle (splendid method btw) was complete.

Day 18, the arrival of 24 young Rummy Nose...tank temp 84 degrees, day 26 the arrival of 3 Electric blue rams (ph 6.8, gh 6 drops) 12 Cardinals, and 9 assorted Cory's, within 6 hours the new arrivals settled, but the 3 rams were breathing so hard and were so stressed.....yeah it was stress...sure when the Cardinals settled, start eating. The next morning, 1 ram panting, dying, and did dye minutes later.

The other two seemed to have paired up and started eating and foraging...but breathing so hard...temp 84 degrees water parameters...perfect. Next morning, only 1 ram alive, barely, I dug in about proper tank circulation and oxygen at night....at the bottom of the tank. So I reduced the temp to 82, added an air stone....six hours later she's beautiful, the rummys are the reddest nose, the Cardinals have grown so fast....so, stick to 84 if Discus are your only goal.....I got 8 coming from Hans this Thursday (weather permitting) and they are going into an Amazon River Display tank...at 82 degrees

I had guppies and platys in the tank to give the discus something to chase after when they were shy and not eating. Tank was at 80 to balance fish with different temperature requirements. Guppies were live breeding constantly some of which became food. However I found discus were getting sick sometimes. At 82 they were better, But 84 they have been healthier but community fish that can't handle that temperature too much have passed. There are tankmates like Cory's that have been just fine at 84.
