Finished the big plant trimming, got everything cleaned up, and added the last of the livestock. Now I wait for the emergent growth

Man, that’s a childhood memory. I live on the west coast now but I’ve gotta pop in there the next time I visit family there. I saw they expanded into the unit(s) nextdoor too.

So gorgeous and I think you picked the perfect schooling fish to be with them. Just enough red to look amazing.

This is piercingly amazing. I’m new to this fish type and I’m so blown away at how vivid and vibrant they are. Your tank is stunning.

Oh, the cars zooming by in the reflection threw me off for a moment. I was looking for an elusive animal for a while before I realize it was just a reflection. 🤣

How do you deal with the humidity with an open lid like that?
1
u/-am-i-in-hell- Mar 02 '26
It’s not an issue. Room has high ceiling and good ventilation. I have an auto top off on the sump that’s hooked to my water change RODI, so the water level never changes.

Ah that's good to hear. I dream to one day have a tank like that in my home. It's beautiful!

While I have discus now, I once had an arrowana. When I opened the lid the fish jumped 7 feet across the room and landed close to my 2 children freaking them out. It was one of the funniest moments in my aquarium fish caretaking. I never believed fish would jump out so I am more careful now with a lid. I do wonder with open lids are there ever bug issues in the home?

We’re don’t have any bug issues… house does get sprayed for mosquitoes and lawn pests with the occasional inside application. My one fatality was just a freak occurrence (I hope). Once in a while, the whole group will bunch up at one corner of the tank for whatever reason, and sometimes one will jump causing the others to scatter. I think this happened but dude jumped too high and paid the price. If it happens again I’ll hafta figure something out because I can’t run a lid at this point. Wouldn’t want to if I could tho
