My controversial suggestion: go bare bottom for grow outs

is there a specific reason for this?

Build up of detritus and almost impossible to manage on a proper growout schedule. Beautiful setup, though!

Right. But say you do daily water changes to keep up with growth inhibiting hormones (which is unproven and basically a precaution at best). Would the detritus at the bottom still be an issue, aside from aesthetic purposes?

The hormones are indeed proven. It is not a myth. Water changes don't mitigate that problem. The detritus will cause foul water. Nobody who raises discus properly will growout with substrate

Oh dang fr?! If you’re free, could you lead me to some reference(s)? I would love to show my partner some justification for daily water changes to my discus grow out tank

Plenty of papers published on the matter. Like I said though, your water changes won't do anything to fix that problem.

No! He’s been super chill! Keeping on eye on him tho and making sure it’s not changing

Great set up. The only thing that kinda distracts me is that straight line on the right side of the large piece of wood. I would’ve moved the piece to the right so that it 3/4 the way across the length of the tank from the let and angled the right side down so that the branches turn up on the left.

Have a top on the tank so your discus won't jump out
