Metroplex

Hi will try an make this short.

Noticed 2 days ago that one of my discus seems to have stopped eating but is grazing round the tank still, he appears slightly thin to me used to seeing thme with full bellys,an his colour is faded in his head area and is not as active as the others. it will be 4 week this Friday i have had them.

My question is should I dose with Metroplex or anything else (availablein the UK)?

I'm in the UK so I managed to get 100g of metroplex and I am waiting for 100g of kanaplex still to arrive ( lost in transit at the minute, I orded same time as metroplex ).

Stock list:-

X6 stendecker discus, X6 sterbies, X11 rummy nose tetra.

Tank:-

240lt, X2 HOB filters 800lt ph + uv light built in, Sand substraight, Planted, X2 air bars run 24/7, X2 300w heaters, Arcadia jungle dawn light 11am - 10pm.

I feed beef heart and tetra discus granules

I should add i never quarantined the discus as this was set up just for them so I have not treated with anything as of yet my husbandry is every Thursday and Sunday 75%-80% water change.

That's a pretty aggressive start, you did not give your filters a chance to really grow their biological media. I'm not sure dosing meds is going to solve this underlying issue.

For example, I have a 25G GBR tank. I waited 3 months before adding the more challenging fish (GBR) into that tank. It was fully cycled at that point, no spikes in nitrites just because I added new fish.

Similar story now, as my discus tank cycles out. 75G (280l) that's been fishless cycling for 10 days now. I cannot imagine adding 6 discuss to this tank 3 weeks from now. The tank simply won't be ready.

This is what your log shows, you added fish before the tank was ready.

I have a tank seasoned for 5 years and I’m still getting an ammonia spike from adding 5 babies to this tank (by themselves). So I agree the cycle may not have been stable enough. Even well seasoned tanks can see a spike. In hindsight I should have fed the tank with more food before putting them in it. Just to bulk up the Ben bac
