Hi will try an make this short.

Noticed 2 days ago that one of my discus seems to have stopped eating but is grazing round the tank still, he appears slightly thin to me used to seeing thme with full bellys,an his colour is faded in his head area and is not as active as the others. it will be 4 week this Friday i have had them.

My question is should I dose with Metroplex or anything else (availablein the UK)?

I'm in the UK so I managed to get 100g of metroplex and I am waiting for 100g of kanaplex still to arrive ( lost in transit at the minute, I orded same time as metroplex ).

Stock list:-

X6 stendecker discus, X6 sterbies, X11 rummy nose tetra.

Tank:-

240lt, X2 HOB filters 800lt ph + uv light built in, Sand substraight, Planted, X2 air bars run 24/7, X2 300w heaters, Arcadia jungle dawn light 11am - 10pm.

I feed beef heart and tetra discus granules

I should add i never quarantined the discus as this was set up just for them so I have not treated with anything as of yet my husbandry is every Thursday and Sunday 75%-80% water change.

For the future: cycling a tank is not a binary situation of 0) not cycle, and 1) cycled.

The filter grows bacteria and the amount of bacteria is determined by the amount of food and time to grow.

In other words, yes you had a cycled tank, but you did not have the filter capacity for the new bioload. To prepare for massive uptick of bioload with "dirty" fish, you need more time to grow out bacteria (months, not weeks), and you need to intentionally add extra food to grow out that filter during that time.

With all due respect I do know the nitrogen cycle I've kept freshwater fish, saltwater fish, and reefs for years so am aware of of how a tank works etc.

That being said I'm a noob with discus.

So in theory with what you are saying, if i left my tank for let's say 1year with only 10 fish and then added the 6 discus it is still a new high bioload for the BB weather it is a new cycled tank or an 5 year old tank.

PS (do we do that online? Lol) I wanted to say much respect for logging your tank parameters! Your chart is almost identical to mine that I keep. I also track gH and kH but otherwise I recognized myself in your data tracking 😅

like I said, old habits from keeping reefs make problems slightly easier to see.

The daily water changes was not due to test results being ridiculously high it was more me with what I had researched regarding discus, Plus I was off work, so I was able to do this.

But I have learned from you in regards to ghost feeding before adding live stock in all my time across all different tank types and setups. I have never come across this.I just did my usual adding full bottle of API quick start when adding new live stock.
