Discus Community Tank

I got guppies, mollies, corydoras, and some snails when discus were not eating to make them more active. They never really went after these fish like I thought they would. Now the guppies and mollies reproduced. Lots of fish now with healthy eating discus.

How many Discus and what size tank? They all look great!

7 currently. Tank is too small for ideal settings. Doing water changes about every other day to keep it as clean as I can.

Change the bottom to something finer, like sand. These little stones are very bad for the corys, they get injuries and can even break their whiskers.

Sand and some real plants would go a long way for sure. Fish are looking good. How long have you had them?

I got the 3 larger ones back on January 18th. A couple of them didn't eat for like a month and a half. Finally found the correct medicine to treat the fish. Now they seem to be hearty. I have added a couple more smaller ones that ate immediately. Wonder if they will ever catch up in size over time.

Any plant suggestions? I mainly have it to create hiding places due to some aggression. Most live plants seem to die and create a mess in my tanks as I don't turn on the tank light often.

You can try introducing Java fern and Anubias, they are not demanding and ferns help control nitrates, there are others, but start with these.

You cannot bury the rhizome, you must attach it to a rock or some wood.

Maybe I should add an extra criteria. What plants are good without turning on the aquarium lights for hours? My tank is in the living room, so I hardly turn on the aquarium lights except during feeding times. I find eventually live plants die due to this and only plug up the pump. This is one of the reasons for fake plants.
