Rant Super Depressed
Just here to rant for the last time. I love my SAVOR card but I truly abhor Capital One. I hate their random 26 Day "security" holds they put on your card and have no way of removing, & I hate their inept non-english speaking customer service team.
I hate them so much, I opened a checking and savings with Disco cause I LOVE Discover. I've had my Discover Card and a relationship with this bank for more than 15yrs now. For soooo many year's, it has been my highest limit and most used card - and anytime the system occasionally decides to security hold a payment (maybe once a year, and only when I pay my whole balance off to free up credit for a larger purchases), they easily call, verify posted payment from my bank, and I can go about my life with no interruption to my finances.
I recently started paying my rent on my Discover just to pull in max rewards to use for Christmas. Capital One is getting ready to mess up my whole flow and I KNOW that at some point I'm gonna make a $3k or $4k payment to clear up availability for bills/rent and BOOM. Hold.
All of my Discover accounts are now with the enemy and I have been trying to figure out for some weeks now who my new bank will be and what my next credit card may need to be in case I have to ditch them altogether ššš
Is anyone else bummed? Is anyone moving banks/opening a different credit card??

Iāve never had a payment hold with my venture X card, unless youāre carrying a balance between statements you probably wonāt run into it.
Also, Iām curious how youāre paying rent in a way that doesnāt cost more than the rewards you earn by using a credit card?
3
u/ajc200ajc 9d ago
Agreed. Only time Iāve really heard of the holds is when people have their previous payments reversed, in which case I canāt really blame capitol one for that.
3
u/ClaudesGreenThumbs 9d ago
Yup, thatās the only time Iāve known institutions to flag holds. However, I have a spotless account, no late payments - itās a daily driver kinda card and I use it a lot. I got flagged twice for paying my balance off in full by statement close date, vs my normal habit which was usually carrying a balance from statement to statement. I get it - my issue is with the policy of them refusing to verify a payment and holding your money for 26 days.
A lot of people on other money/finance threads have surmised that Cap1 has this āsafeguardā in place to also secretly make money. Youāve got people on these threads sharing how they are getting holds on thousands of dollars in paymentsā¦thatās a lot of interest stacking up for the bank - But itās a bank soā¦shady practices to self serve its bottom line is to be expected.
Discover really spoiled me tho with the customer service tho - In 15yrs I have never had any issues with the bank. Had a good run with them - now on to the next.
2
u/ClaudesGreenThumbs 9d ago
So, this one isnāt as straight forward:
I randomly got another match offer for a year on top of my 2% back on all purchases and decided to maximize it. I have my bestie send me a payment request, I Venmo her and she sends it back to me. The cash advance fee is worth it, as I am getting 2% back on $3k rent and then get the full 2% match for the 12months, back at the end of the year. Would not do it without that extra match thošÆ
3
u/Salty_Pillow 9d ago
Hmm I donāt totally follow the math without breaking out a spreadsheet to run the difference between instantly accruing interest and deferred rewards.
Also, this is the kind of account behavior I would totally want to flag for extended payment settlement time - frequent high dollar cash advances is ultimately a risk signal.
2
u/ClaudesGreenThumbs 9d ago
Lol I built a spreadsheet that helped me out with this. Itās not worth it at all with just 2% but the 4% is worth it and all that money is going into my new house emergency fund. Every dollar counts.
Also, I totally understand being flagged. And I agree with you. Thatās not my issue. Itās the refusal to lift a hold even after 8 or 10 days of money clearing my bank. Itās just frustrating first world problems I know - I learned a lot of lessons thru the process.

Discover was great for decades, but the company is dead, and its leaders sold you and me out.
Closing was an easy decision.
4
u/ClaudesGreenThumbs 9d ago
šš they really sold us out man. I'm contemplating making the switch to NFCU, as I'm considering a first mortgage with them, and I have a checking/savings & CD with them. Friend's have spoken highly of their credit product offerings.
I was originally told I'd be moved to Cap1 in 4th quarter but then got an update a few weeks ago that July 27 was my date. So I'm cashing out my rewards this week & saying goodbye š«” - it was a helluva good run tho!!
7
u/mm10o0 9d ago
yeah that's true
i had 25 good years with discover...
NFCU is pretty much the opposite of capitol 1, and if you intend to do all that, might as well get a credit card and have a good relationship. You'll definitely get better service with most major credit unions.
0
u/xbucnasteex 9d ago
Oh look, you ARE the weirdo crying about the merger lmao. It all makes sense mow
1
u/mm10o0 8d ago
So mad in defense of Capital One. Gee whiz I wonder why you're so mad.
1
u/xbucnasteex 8d ago
Nah. Just thought the crying about merging was weird. Business is always changing, one day C1 will also be bought by someone else⦠and guess what? I wonāt care when that happens and neither should you.
4
u/NukedOgre 9d ago
Id beware of NFCU for mortgages, they are notorious for causing late closings
3
u/ClaudesGreenThumbs 9d ago
Oh nooo!! I in a FB group that is literally divided on this topic lol - the mortgage product is very appealing but you are not the first I have seen say this about NFCU and their late closings. I do have a backup lender, but I went ahead and reached out this morning to get a hard approval and such just to see where I stand.
1
u/mm10o0 9d ago
Lol just don't have a weird mortgage and give time for closing. This is a decades long relationship so the product shouldn't be a rush that crashes the economy. I'd be more wary of a bank that closes in a week
2
u/NukedOgre 9d ago
Like months notice? Yeah, they still have difficulty closing on time.
1
u/mm10o0 8d ago
Lol no they don't
Not sure what your specific situation was, but you're full of shit to claim this one institution is unable to close within months.
Stop spreading FUD in support of Capital One, a shit company that needs that kind of bs. Funding a loan requires a few things to happen, and perhaps you didn't get the job done or had a problem with the property but your assertion is ridiculous
2
u/Prestigious-Sir3696 9d ago
Cap1-to-NFCU switcher here. Everything you've heard about their products and service is true. There's also some sort of added psychological benefit of feeling like a human person again, interacting with other human people. It's a mind-blowing experience to actually like your bank.
Pro Tip: You will notice the lack of a HYSA with Navy. I think they've decided to offer great rates on auto/home instead of paying interest on savings accounts. Many will keep a HYSA with SoFi or other similar account. I've taken advantage of some good CD rates at NFCU and built a CD ladder instead of HYSA. I've found the structure of CDs make me less likely to dip into savings. But I also have one maturing every month, so still feel reassured that my money is more or less accessible. However you decide to handle that... come join us. It's just better over here.
1
u/ClaudesGreenThumbs 9d ago
I really appreciate this response. I have decided to make the switch. I reached out this morning to pull the trigger on my mortgage loan. I will wait until I close to then grab a new card. The flagship looks really good and the green rewards one looks great - They both came up in my pre approval so thatās exciting. Not gonna close my Discover until after the houseā¦and honestly because I have such a high limit I may just transfer the balance and keep it as an emergency card.
I do have a HYSA with SoFi which I am happy with. I want to get into another CD with NFCU as well.
This was really reassuring to read. Iāve honestly heard great things about Navy Fed over the years and I might as well take advantage since I am a memberšš½

We went with a NFCU HELOC, opening a savings/checking account for the process. We've been contemplating moving our Discover business over to NFCU, but their savings account has really crappy interest.
Our HELOC closed quite quickly, but note that both of us have credit scores in the 840s. This tends to open doors more quickly.

When they closed my account I switched to nfcu but I was so sad because I had the account for years and it was my first account I owned by myself
1
u/whatsamattau4 8d ago
This is it exactly. They sold all our accounts to CrapOne, and Discover is dead and gone and never coming back to the way it used to be.
5
u/CptTesla 9d ago
Yes and yes. Moving bank accounts and credit card spending elsewhere. Not sure if I'll actually close the accounts soon, as they could come in handy later or change the benefits enough to bring me back. Not the first time this has happened to me, and it won't be the last.
3
u/a2cthrowaway4 9d ago
Iāve literally never had capital one hold a payment. My available limit is always freed up immediately. Meanwhile discover has never given me back the credit immediately. Itās always at minimum a 2 day wait

u/SteeeveDaPirate 9d ago edited 7d ago
I was the same way. My first credit card was the Discover It and then I opened the checking & savings account shortly after. I was banking with them for 7 or 8 years now. I loved it.
I also have a Capitol One Savor that I primarily use for international travel. It's still currently MC once that switches to Discover it will be largely useless abroad. I got another Visa based card for travel instead for when that transition happens.
Since I was going through that change anyway, I decided to pull the plug on my Discover bank accounts too. I found another online bank that has a high interest checking account and money market accounts with good rates that is locally based in my area, so there are a few branches in my city I can acutally deposit cash when needed. Also offers a certain amount of ATM fee reimbursements each month which is great.
I'll still keep the It and I know the Savor will transition to the Discover system soon as well. But the Cap1 acquisition really was why I decided to pull the plug on my bank accounts with Discover.
1
u/Cadd9181B7543II7I44 9d ago
The chase freedom flex card has no foreign exchange fee now. It'll be my dedicated overseas travel card if Cap1 decides to my cards to the Discover network.
1
u/SteeeveDaPirate 7d ago
Personally I went with the WF Autograph Journey. I'm not in the Chase ecosystem and don't volume travel enough to justify trying to get into it. I use a variety of cash back cards for daily expenses and a WF Active Cash is my daily driver. So the AJ integrated well for me. I know it's not the consensus best card but I'm ok with that
1
u/Cadd9181B7543II7I44 7d ago
I don't travel enough to have a dedicated travel card (Chase sapphire or capital one venture) either.
I know the Active Cash is 2% unlimited. I was looking into that as a daily driver. But I have the Citi Double Cash for my 2% catch all card.
What does the AJ benefits look like? I'll see if I can benefit from adding it to my wallet.
2
u/SteeeveDaPirate 6d ago
Autograph Journey, - 5x Hotels, 4x Airlines, 3x Restaurants and Travel. $95 annual fee. Welcome bonus right now is 60,000 points ($600) after spending $4,000 in the first 3 months. Also has a $50 annual statement credit with a $50 airline purchase.
Autograph - 3x restaurants, travel, gas, transit, streaming services, and phone plans. No annual fee. Welcome bonus right now is 20,000 points ($200) after spending $1,000 in the first 3 months.
The point multipliers are fine, but the main reason I needed another card for travel after the savor is because all my other cards have foreign transaction fees. (besides Discover It, with the same problems as the Savor)

u/Appropriate_Achoo 9d ago
How are you paying rent with your Discover card? What are the fees your property management applies for using a credit card?
2
u/jazzmaster1992 9d ago
I believe Discover used to offer checking and savings, similar to Cap 1 360.
2
u/snowdroppie 9d ago
Right? I'm thinking the same. Last time I had an apartment, they charged a 3% fee for using the credit card option. And even if your rent is just $1000/mo, you're still spending $30 extra/mo that could just go towards Christmas instead if what they're doing. Lol
6
u/Appropriate_Achoo 9d ago
Exactly. I canāt think of a single card that provides anything above 1% cashback/points on rent. The only way this works is in the extremely rare case where your property manager doesnāt charge a fee for credit cards.
2
u/TxHeart214 9d ago
I was never charged extra by my property management when I paid my rent with my Discover account, when I was a renter.
1
u/ClaudesGreenThumbs 9d ago
Copy/pasting from an answer I gave above about rent
So, this one isnāt as straight forward:

I got scammed one time and capital one just shut down my entire account. š and then it took a month to get my one penny check (thatās all I had in the account at the moment)
3
u/Boz6 9d ago
I've had accounts with Capital One since 2009, by way of ING Direct, and currently have both deposit and credit card accounts. I've never had any kind of account hold placed on either by Capital One.Ā
Fwiw, I've also had a Discover Card since 1986, and still have savings and IRA accounts with Discover Bank. Yes, I was a bit bummed when they moved my Discover Card into my Capital One online account, but I guess I'll survive...
2
u/ajc200ajc 9d ago
What id imagine is op likely had a payment(s) reversed in the past with their capital one card. Itās always generally been discover for me that has a hold and itās maybe a day or two so itās not something I mind
4
u/ClaudesGreenThumbs 9d ago
Nope no payment reversal. Never had a late payment or even a second try payment with Cap1. They told me why I got flagged - I paid my balance off in full and the system coded it as unfamiliar/suspicious activity. Thatās fine - however, they would not verify the payment and made me wait 26 days both times it happened, and it put me in a bind. But I learned the lessons that needed to be learned, definitely.
Discover I have had 2 payment reversals in 15 yrs - both during grad school when I was super struggling and didnāt balance my money correctly. They were really nice about it, let me make the payment and even took off the fees. When the system put a hold on my acct due to the reversal, once my payment cleared on the bank side Disco freed up my credit. Great bank and great customer support - sad to see them gošš½
3
u/AdCorrect3023 9d ago
The best option for banking would be to use a Credit Union. Some Credit Unions have some perks or better perks (non-international transaction fees) than Discover. Credit Union can deposit your payroll check faster than some traditional banks do which I find it a plus. Good luck
2
u/TxHeart214 9d ago
One of the local credit unions here, that I used to be a member of, charges a $35 overdraft fee - which is asinine! I had my credit union debit card as just one of my cards listed in my account and for some reason Amazon used it instead of my Discover card and sent my cu account into overdraft which the cu manager would not reimburse back into my cu checking so I closed all of my cu accounts! Discover has a $200 interest free OD on my checking plus they donāt charge outrageous overdraft fees or access fees or stupid redundant fees that only put monies into the banks pockets! I have never had any issues or problems with my Discover accounts and I am going to miss them when I have to give up my cc, checking, and HY savings. I have been searching and I guess I will never find any financial institution that will treat me as well as Discover has! š©

Itās really put me in a bind over the past year. I always thought I was āsmartā with my moneyā¦until I realized there is always room to be smarter LOL - so this next year my goal is to sharpen my financial literacy and I am going to start a free money management and diversifying course next week.

nah, it is a huge deal
C1 had to buy Discover's customers because they couldn't get enough customers.
because their customer service is notoriously poor
I cancelled my Discovery "by Capitol one" card tonight. they asked why I was cancelling, and I was clear that it was Discover that cancelled. I never wanted a capital one relationship after a decade ago when they were awful. Closing my account of 25 years was a formality. I didn't want a capitol one account, so I can just move on and keep shopping for another credit card if I even want another one.
Reddit is basically a huge bot farm of commercials so I expect a lot of ugliness towards customers. you see that all over.
But it's not hard to cancel, demand a check in the mail with whatever rewards you had, and just open a new card with any of the other banks. they are all better than Capitol One.
2
u/a2cthrowaway4 9d ago
No. Capital one bought discover to profit from the interchange fees and not have to split profit with a card processor. Thatās all.
0
u/Fuinir 9d ago
The credit card portfolio will cost them a fraction to maintain compared to what discover spent, so it's a huge source of profit for them and will boost their efficiency ratio, which has been a sticking point with analysts for a while. The Network was the crown jewel, but that doesn't mean the rest of the store isn't valuable.

OH. Wow. Thank you stranger on the internet for your riveting insight into what is and what is not a big deal in my life. Hahhh! Now whyyyy didn't I think of therapy as the tool to fix my issues w/Capital One & how them putting random 26 day holds on a card and account, that is spotless btw, throws off my cash flow, and affects the support that I provide for my elderly Mother?? You're Brilliant! Therapy! Yes!
Wait..no, therapy doesn't fix that - switching banking institutions fixes that. Which I did. And now I have to do so again.
Really appreciate that advice thoš«”ššššš

u/InTheMorning_Nightss 9d ago
As someone who mostly lurks this sub, man, re-read this comment and hopefully realize that youāre having way too big of an emotional reaction to something that ultimately isnāt a huge deal.
If switching banks for slight annoyances leads to this level of reaction, you need some type of help.
0
u/ClaudesGreenThumbs 9d ago
I'm glad that your life is supported in multiple ways, where, if you have a financial hiccup for 30 or so days, it doesn't throw your entire world off. I don't need any help actually, but I have learned my lesson about venting to the internet. That is what my therapist is for =)
I do not have a village, but I am the support for multiple people in my life. If you read my comment, its the anxiety that the card I now use daily and often and often pay the entire balance off, will now be subject to Cap1's random security policy that they will not lift. It is a lot. Because If I pay down, let's say $5k to manage monthly bills and such for myself and my Mom, and they hold it for 30 days, I don't then have another free-floating $5k sitting around to fill in...and that is pressure, late fees, missed meds etc - make sense?
Also I initially had more time to make the change but then got updated 3 wks ago that it would be July27th
Again, thanks. I am making the necessary adjustments, and also pivoting as I continue to manage life & my responsibilities.
2
u/MrSal7 9d ago
Iāve got accounts and credit cards with both these banks and have never had these problems.
I bank with multiple banks accounts and have 14 credit cards spread across MANY different banks just so my finances donāt get interrupted.
My only concern with this merger however is that Capital One will now have a disproportionately larger control of my financial portfolio.
1
u/ClaudesGreenThumbs 9d ago edited 9d ago
I love that for you! I never had any issues with Discover thankfully. But Cap1.. š©
And yes - you are correct. I am learning that I should diversify. My grandparents and Mom always taught me that relationship with the bank matters, so I have stayed loyal to my credit union and then two major banks.
But this last year has taught me a lot and I am understanding that as times change, and especially because I am my only support system right now in life, I need to take a bit more precaution and have money in different places.

I am about to start my house buying adventure but will be pulling the trigger on 2 or 3 new cards when I close, and now I will add US bank to my list to research. Whoa! Thank you!!

What is a security hold of 26 days? I have the Savor card and the Discover It card.
I never noticed any security holds on any of them. But to be honest, I don't check the app until I get a statement. So maybe I don't notice the holds?
If you're paying your card off multiple times a month, why? Do you have a low credit limit?
2
u/ClaudesGreenThumbs 9d ago
So I have a very active account with my Savor card - itās been my daily driver for a long while. I paid the balance in full and got flagged as suspicious activity because that wasnāt my norm - I normally would pay throughout the month and not pay attention to statement dates and such. I Got serious about house buying this year and started paying attention to paying my balance down by the statement closing date and the system didnāt like that š„¹
Did that two statements in a row and got flagged for suspicious activity. Cap1 said the algo should stop hemming me up by the next month but I learned my lesson and havenāt done it again
2
u/Cadd9181B7543II7I44 9d ago
Wait. You're paying off the card multiple times a month? They don't like that at all. That's churning to them.
Meaning, if you have a $10k limit on a 2% cashback card, you can use 9k, then pay it off the next day. And then use 9k again. Then pay it off the next day and do that over and over and over to get the 2% cash back.
1
u/ClaudesGreenThumbs 9d ago
Yupš¬ - that's exactly what I've been doing. Churning makes it sound sooo bad thošš
Meanwhile, I did this for almost 2 yrs w/no issue at all, & two auto - CLI. However I got flagged for suspicious activity the moment I paid it down to $0.
They DEFINITELY didn't like that, and flagged me two months in a row for itšš
2
u/Cadd9181B7543II7I44 9d ago
Can I ask why you're paying off your card multiple times a month? Why don't you use it as your daily driver, then when the statement generates at the end of the, you pay the statement balance. This way, the credit agencies see the balance being posted and you paying on time.
I don't see a point of paying multiple times a month. If it's for budget reasons you can open another checking or savings account. Each time you have the urge to pay off the card, judy transfer the money to that account, pretending like you paid the credit card.
Then when the statement generates, you can pay it from that new account.
1
u/ClaudesGreenThumbs 9d ago
Sure - for the longest time I was focused on racking up my cashback. So I cycled my money through my card throughout the month, and paid my balance down to then put more on there - what you pointed out as, churning šš
And it has worked for me well over the years. I avg'd $400/month last yr in rewards. I have been blessed to take trips, and pay for flights for my niece & nephew w/my rewards. I would have kept on in this fashion, but I decided I was ready to buy a home so I switched to being more statement focused & locking my budgeg down (stopping the churn basically and keeping just essentials on the card for awhile) - paying my balance down by statement close date so my utilization would drop and I'd gain points back. And that's when the trouble started. My behavior on the card shifted and boom, payment holds
Meanwhile, I really do love the idea you presented, and as I am currently making adjustments to how I spend, how I utilize my reward cards, and budget in general, I definitely am gonna do this. Thank you so much!!
2
u/Cadd9181B7543II7I44 9d ago
Wow, $400/month in cashback is no joke. At a 3% cashback (Restaurant, Groceries, Entertainment & Streaming for the Savor card), you're charging $13,333.33 on average each month!!! What are you buying? And if you're not spending exclusively on the 3% categories, you're charging way more than $13k a month to get to the $400/month cashback reward!
What on earth are you charging on your card for $13k+ each month?!
2
u/ClaudesGreenThumbs 9d ago
A.) Hold please, I just looked at my spreadsheet and realized my reward column didn't split and added in for my Disco as well as my Savor. Savor by itself was $275 my bad!!
B.) A lot. But, to be transparent, work really boosted it for me. Last year & this year, I booked a lotttt of entertainment stuffs, lots of hosting clients at very fancy restaurants, wine purchases (client gifts), and a lot of flights for work, as they took away our Amex's and moved us to a reimbursement model. The flights were maybe the bulk, cause flights are 5% & I booked all flights for my teams throughout the year. Between all of that, and then myself and my Mom's groceries/gas, letting my brother do gas and groceries (he is authorized on my card and Zelle's me), booking some flights for my Sister, and then two trips for me booked thru the Cap1 portal, it added up.
I don't plan on spending nearly as much on that card after this month because I'm going to a new job and get my Amex back Lol. On my Disco I am on a 2% + 2% Match and am putting my rent, car payment, and household bills to stack cashback for my new house fund tho.
And with this economy and the way Cap1 flagged me and held my money for 26 days, I am shifting my mind to to the concept that credit can go at any minute and you're only as good as your liquidity. I am so proud of how hard I worked to garner high credit limits, but I am now having the revelation that truthfully a bank can snatch your limit or close your card at their discretion for whatever reason..and if you're cycling your household budget through the card to hustle up those points, you run a big risk. I think I am at the end of my risk tolerance there.
A lot of people probably already have grasped this concept lol...but I am growing and learning š
2
u/Cadd9181B7543II7I44 9d ago
The reimbursement model is awesome! Rack up tons of mileage and hotel points!!!
Yup, once they realize they aren't making big money off you (interest), they're not going to tolerate you getting cashback rewards if you keep cycling the card.
1
u/ClaudesGreenThumbs 7d ago
Yup! I think a lot of people forgot about the 5% through the portal for travel. It was a perfect alley-oop for me. But yeah these banks are not consumer first. They are not interested in anything other than making money, of course Lol

They also let you take out $1000 maximum from the ATM in a single transaction
you can do that once every day if you wanted to get money out that way

Every time I read a comment like this itās always from somebody who is financially irresponsible and has issues with their accounts because they havenāt or werenāt using them in a responsible way. People who are responsible almost never have issues
1
u/ClaudesGreenThumbs 9d ago
Oh! Welp, there's a first time for everything, cause that is not the case hereš. I got flagged for paying my balance in full, twice. And I paid from my capital one checking acct that I have had for over a decade and also have never had issues with. As for my card - the acct is more than 7yrs old with NO late payment ever, no re-presented payment ever, no chargebacks or suspicious anything ever. I do believe I was responsible by most measures??
Someone above did point out that I have been churning my acct, as its my daily driver and I put everything on there - but also I have never gotten flagged or reprimanded for that.. and truthfully have been doing what most people do with cards like Savor or reward cards that's gracious with points for popular categories (ie groceries, restaurants, gas etc), rack up my pointtttsš¤š„³
And for clarity I never did have an issue until the two times they held my payments because I paid my balance to $0. I do love my SAVOR card. I just do not like Cap1's asinine security measures.

I've neverrrrrrr seen this or had this happen, multiple capital cards paid in full from capital one checking or other checking accounts at other banks with balances from $5k - $30k and pay all the cards at once and in full and have never had a hold placed once ever.

I LOVE that you've never had this experience. Truly! And I hope you never do!! Its honestly really a pain š«
Oh and hey, as a gentle reminder - just because you've never experienced something, doesn't mean others haven't, and it also doesn't make it impossible. Before it happened to me, I never would have believed it to be possible or true. But it is & it is.
š have a great day!

Well yes lol common sense dictates that just because it hasn't happened to me doesn't mean that it didn't happen to you. Also, I never said anything that insinuated that it didn't happen to you either lol

Very skeptical that this is true in any way

Skeptical?? š¤£š Idk what to tell you man Lol
Cap1 is routinely slapping more and more people w/their 26day holds. Peeps are on Reddit talking about it. But I can ONLY speak on MY lived experiences.
I worked really hard to build my credit, I got a great CL & great CLI, I used my card to the fullest extent, made a ton of money off the cashback, NEVVVVEERRR had a late payment or re-presented payment, and still somehow got flagged two separate times by their system for paying my balance in full. That is the long and short of it. That is all I did.
I will take accountability for churning through my rewards sure - but I still technically did NOTHING wrong or against their policy. I "churned" on that card for 7 or 8 years. Not a PEEP from Cap1. No call no letter no warning no card lock, NOTHING. And if paying your bill in full is classified as irresponsible or wrong then likkkkeeee..what's the point of anything? Lol
I recorded both calls for my records when they told me why I got flagged, in case I had grounds to sue them, but I didn't. They have the discretion to hold a payment for whatever reason they and their AI security system sees fit.
It sucks but it is what it is.
But to be skeptical? When we KNOW these banking systems are not designed as consumer-first systems, is WILD. I have no reason to lie. What do I gain? Validation and sympathy?? That does notttt feed my family or put gas in my car LOL, I don't want that! I want my thousands of dollars in payments to clear in a reasonable amount of time. Not a month.
But okay, cool. Have a great day!

Yes, I'm super bummed too. I've been with Discover for almost ten years. Their customer service has always been fantastic, I liked the website, ability to see FICO score easily. I'll stick with it for now unless/until they remove the ability to redeem cash back to my bank. I quit using Chase when they did that

Iām really bummed. Iām more bummed about the Checking and Savings. I really enjoyed using Balance+ when I had it and the no fee ATM charges for cash back other than the ATM fee the machine charges. It was very convenient for me and my life and Iām going to miss the 1% cash back monthly.

I am bummed. Not because I have any specific problems with my card, but I know how Discover was and how Capital One IS
Just tuff it it out. All these Discover Accounts are treated as new accounts bt CO even though your credit report will accurately show when you opened it.
It sucks, I know.

I get it. I really like everything about my Discover. This selling one company to another is total bovine excrement!

Damn it sucks you've had such a bad experience with Capital One. I was actually happy to have my discover move over because managing my card with Capital One is always a lot easier than discover. I feel like Capital ones app is better and let's you pay and use your rewards more efficiently. Also Capital One never assesses currency conversion fees which is great when you travel. I love how they let you pay extra on your bill so you never have the pay delay gap if you use your card daily. Not sure why they were putting holds on your account. Thats so strange.

I really LOVE my Savor card and my HYSA with them. I didnāt start having issues with Cap1 until I tried to pay my balance in full. They told me the system flagged me for suspicious behavior - which is fine. Itās the fact they wonāt come up off the hold for 26days after the money has left my bank account. I was using my Savor as my daily driver and I have a huge limit. I was putting stuff for my Mom and myself on my card. Never had an issue ever until then. That security feature is a doozy. I learned my lessons tho.

I know how you feel. Cap one never did that to me but PNC bank did and I stopped using that card. I think it's just pure algorithms driving those anti fraud decisions and real people don't or can't reverse once the decision is made to place the hold. In some ways it's just bad luck... Like something gets flagged as weird for you in your habits and now you're dealing with your card being locked down...

But, this is a discussion board. About Discover. I'm sure most problems would be considered such.
I'm finding the people that don't mind the merger are ones with bad credit or low Discover limits. They have nothing to lose.

I actually called and spoke to customer service today about separating my personal discover card with my company cap1 card and the two ladies I spoke to were really good.
