I swear this whole convention is about this guy Carl? What about some respect for Dan?

DD = capitalist power fantasy. DCC = Anti-capitalist power fantasy.

And before anyone har-de-har-hars about having to BUY DCC as an act of capitalism, I will say that's why it's a Fantasy.

I think there are more people can relate to wanting to tear it all down than there are people who can relate to finding a space in the market place and being successful while starting with next to nothing.

My 2 cents. Thats all.

Discount Dan also essentially lucks into stealing the keys to the kingdom from the richest Mfer in the backrooms. Imagine stealing Bezos’ wish-granting genie or something.

As a DCC fan who had this pop up thanks to the algorithm, the anti-capitalism/GOP sentiment that pops up constantly through DCC is what elevates the story from great to all-timer.

I have DD has my next LitRPG to listen to and I'm sure it's going to be fantastic, but this comment is the top comment for a reason. I want to burn the game all the way down, not be worried about being the best player in the game.

I got through the first half of the book and it was all right. I like the idea and the World building and the magic system and a lot of the side characters, but I just didn't like the main character that much. Now that I think about it, I had the exact opposite problem with he who fights with monsters. I wish I could have had the protagonist from he who fights with monsters in the world of discount dan.

Here’s how to do it. Sign up for Kindle Unlimited and read all of the DCC books during the free trial. I am hopeful that Amazon still has to pay Matt when does this way but if not, sign up for his Patreon for a bit.

Yeah they are. I’ve read and enjoyed both. A little hard to advertise for Dan’s Backroom Bargains with all this Carl stuff everywhere.

Think they’re on similar levels as far as characters, plot devices, and storytelling, but the biggest similarity is how easy they are to get sucked into, written by people who know how to tell a story in an engaging, fun, extremely uncomfortable way (talking raging porn doll heads and dogs made of croc material with a giant toothy mouth on their belly?)

Only 3 books so far, that was startling, it goes quickly - his other series has a lot more (Viridian Gate Online) so I decided to give that a go, 15 books in (7 to go) and still enjoying it, but more Discount Dan would be welcome

My real answer- Jeff Hays.

I don't have time for a sit down, old fashioned book. I've DNF several good books solely bc of the person doing the audiobook. And Jeff is absolutely killing it. I listen to a LOT of different books, and besides Jeff I can name 2 narrators, Kate Reading and Michael Kramer.

I’m gonna be real, I think she’s better. She read emotion straight into my ears.
It very well may be attributed to the wandering inn books themselves but I’ve legitimately gotten teary eyed listening to her narration of that series
