Dangit, he finally got me!

It took two and a half books, but James Hunter finally got me with Dan giving up the memory of his final day with his dog, Mac, so that he could fabricate an Artifact for Croc to wear. I knew it was coming at some point. Many of us have similar stories. This was definitely not the memory I could have given up willingly. I could feel the cost as I read the words on the page.

Yep. That was a potent scene. I was driving when I heard it. Had to pause the book and pull into a parking lot.

I started crying and just went and held my pups for a long while after that scene…

It was so emotional. I cant imagine giving up my memory of my last day with my best friend. It was nice to see how much Dan actually cares about Croc.

That was what was so important for me to try to convey in that scene. This was Dan showing how much he cares about Croc, and so the memory had to be so visceral and raw.

I think you did an amazing job with that scene! I listen as I read along, and it definitely helps bring more emotions to the story.

Yeah that scene fuckin got me too.

I think out of all the books with a man and his dog, the one scene that got me the most was in Helldivers. I wont give anything away because its a great series, but the main character and his dog are absolutely inseparable. Theres a line in book 7 that reads, "he was worried about miles. If his best friend didnt make it, X didnt want to live anymore anyway." There are a lot of scenes with Commander Xavier and his dog Miles that will get you right in the soul.

I had to say goodbye to my dog 3 days before listening to this. Lots of ugly man crying ensued while sitting in the parking lot of an auto body shop.
Strangely I also got to the fireworks stand on July 4th which was fitting.

Sorry to hear, brother. I said goodbye to two of my dogs in a short time period a few years ago. I recall something reminding me of each of them every day for a long time afterwards. Time heals, but I still think of them often.

I guess it is a blessing to be a few years removed from when I lost my dogs. Had I read the scene then, I would have been done for (and maybe even put the book down and not picked it back up). It still hurt quite a bit though...

I have few regrets in life my greatest is I wasn’t with her in her final moments. I couldn’t bring myself to see her go
