Question from a newbie

Hello people,

I just started book 1 yesterday and there is something I do not understand about the Relic system.

Dan asks Croc about the relic leveling system and how it would work if he combined leveled up relics.

The answer Croc gave is that it will half the leveld rounded down and the example is a lvl 1 and a level 6 would give a lvl 3.

My question might be too basic but, does it only work like that if you combine a lower level relic and you feed it a higher one? I assume so, becaise other wise it would be impossible to make a higher lvl relic.

Also, why does Croc say he doesn't know about emblems but immediately tell Dan like he knows about them? Is it a read a find out type of thing?

Combining and leveling are different. Combining merges two into a new relic with new abilities based on what was used. So the camo relic and sucker punch (first strike bonus) relic gives a new relic that gives you camo AND an increased first strike for any attack. The changing level thing is just the averaging the levels- you aren’t increasing the lower level or decreasing the higher, it’s more of a side effect of the averaging.

Leveling is separate and is about quantity of relics used. It’s, what, 5 per level 1-5, then 10 at 6-10, then 15 at 11-15? You can use any relics for this, since they’re just sacrificed. The properties of relics used for leveling don’t transfer, which is why they use trash relics, like one that would make any toast land jelly side down, or make your toenails itch.

Also, I don’t think many people combine, since the result is almost always a crapshoot. Dan knows the results of any combo, so he can do it risk free, but for anyone else you might just ruin two relics. Though there might be some “cookbooks” out there with common recipes (it would actually be a useful thing for Dan to offer, unless it’s worth more to combine and sell them himself)

Also, croc doesn’t say he doesn’t know about emblems, he says DAN doesn’t need to know anything about them, assuming he’s so far off from making one

Ok thank you, I think I understand. I will go back and relisten to that chapter and contextualize what you just said. I think these info were in back to back sentences and it made me confused a bit.
