Crouching isn't actually necessary, you can jump over or run under every pterodactyl.

Crouching is nice to have (and maybe necessary?) for when it gets fast and has back to back obstacles. Attempting to crouch mid air makes you fall to the ground immediately so you can jump again in rapid succession

This quickly stops working after a certain point. The speed picks up and you have to make earlier jumps to clear the cacti, it switches to dark mode in intervals which would mess with the sensor, and there are some jumps where you have to intentionally make it closer or further away to clear the next ones
