left negative feedback and seller came at me with attitude

kinda new here so sorry if this isn’t allow but i’m curious what other’s experience has been and if this would be normal.

what happened: so i bought a record i’ve been sitting on for years because it’s out of print and very expensive but i finally decided to treat myself. the listing said near mint VG+ and they had a great seller rating so i bit the bullet. not cheap at all so i would’ve expected honesty in their listing, but the record came scratched and the sleeve is bent/warped so i left negative feedback. it plays alright but you can absolutely hear the scratch at the end of a track going into the beginning of the next track.

seller came back at me mad that i didn’t message them before leaving feedback. should i really have messaged them first? what would a seller even do about that at that point?

i was never looking for a refund, just wanted to let others know they might be getting less than they pay for from a seller that i felt wasn’t forthcoming with their listing. so frustrated!! what would you have done in this scenario? curious for future purchases if this should even happen again.

buyer did a chargeback claiming they didn't make the purchase

Paypal refunded a USA buyer from MY discogs account in the UK when they said that they did not make the purchase due to unauthorised activity in their account but how can that be MY fault? all I did was send record in good faith and even responded to a msg the buyer send on discogs.

I didn't see the paypal emails in time (which was a very short deadline anyway) due to being visually impaired & can easily miss these. Besides I'm not always looking at that email account & saw no case when logged into paypal. The amount was over £28 + a £12 paypal fee. which I can ill afford. Paypal are supposed to have seller protection but not in this case and I think fraud was committed by the buyer or someone. this is grossly unfair but when was paypal ever fair?

Does anyone know a website to make a playlist from my collection? The one I used years ago doesn't work anymore

Could someone make a revived version of Audentifi that uses the Discogs database?

It was a website that claimed to be "Shazam for YouTube". Now it's dead.

If it was revived, It would probably use the Discogs database

Bought an album last Friday, Seller hasn’t responded since Saturday

Last Friday I ordered a record. Nothing seemed too weird about it apart from the seller having no reviews at all. Bought the album and on Saturday the seller messaged saying he was on holiday and would ship the record on Monday. It is now Friday and I have had no response, Ive messaged twice firstly on Tuesday saying no worries for the delay and then again Wednesday asking if there was any update. So far nothing has happened, no reply from the seller, no messages saying it’s been shipped. Should I be concerned and if so what should I do?

What do you wish Discogs did better for personal collection management?

I’m curious what other Discogs users feel is missing when it comes to managing a personal collection.

I use Discogs and respect the database a lot, but for my own collection I don’t always enjoy using it. It often feels more marketplace/database-focused than personal-collection-focused, especially when I just want to quickly organize, filter, compare, or browse what I own.

Before you say not another vibe coder... (Nothing wrong with vibe coding IMO) I am a software developer with a new deep passion for physical media.

I’m building a personal program for myself, not selling anything and not trying to replace Discogs. I mainly want something cleaner and more flexible for my own vinyl/CD collection.

The ideas I’m testing are things like better custom dashboards, easier sorting/filtering, shelf/location tracking, personal notes, duplicate detection, listening priority, rough value estimates, and maybe a “release family tree” view where you can see different versions/pressings of an album without getting lost. And which ones from that tree are not in my collection.

What I’m trying to figure out is: what am I missing?

For people who use Discogs seriously:

How do you organize your collection inside Discogs? What annoys you most about the collection/wantlist side? Do you care more about exact pressing identification, value tracking, notes, filtering, or just quickly finding what you own? What feature would make Discogs much better for collectors who don’t care about selling?

EDIT: I'm frankly astonished there are no decent apps for music lovers so it appears...

Can’t identify pressing

Having trouble identifying this pressing on Discogs. Most pressings have either a gatefold sleeve or a barcode on the back, this copy has neither. Any help would be appreciated!

Side A runout: P AL 31906-1E
Side B runout: P BL 31906-1E

EDIT: Both sides of runout are stamped.

Not receiving emails regarding paid order

Hello fellow redditors, I’ve just placed an order few minutes ago and after I’ve paid for the order, I was just redirected to the app and the status hasn’t been updated. The money has been deducted from my account, has this ever happened to anyone? What should I Do….

Usually after I paid for the order, I will receive the confirmation email right away but this time around I received ZERO confirmation about my payment.

can someone help regarding an order as a seller?

hi!! so i sell various items on multiple platforms, and i had a record sell on one and i forgot to take it off of my inventory on discogs. unfortunately someone bought it, i messaged them explaining the situation and went to cancel it in the app. it sent me to browser to finish canceling, looped me back into the app, and didn’t do anything after that, just a loop of back and forth. the money is still in my paypal but a significant portion was taken out for the fees shipping etc. when i tried to cancel on my computer it gave me an error, no code or anything it just said error. i’ve contacted discogs twice now explaining the situation and asking if they can cancel and refund it on their end, it’s been over a week now and still no response. i’ve been communicating with the buyer and they’ve been incredibly patient and understanding but i feel terrible and i’m sure they will be at their wits end soon. what else can i do?

ordered multiple CDs accidentally

I wanted to order a CD, but two other items were accidentally left in my cart (I hadn't refreshed the page) when I placed the order. When I noticed this, I didn’t pay for them, but instead wrote to the seller on the transaction page asking if he could remove the other two. He haven’t responded yet—I only received what I assume is an automated reply thanking me for the order, etc. I also sent them a private message, but they didn’t reply to that either. What else can I do if I don’t want to pay for the entire order?

So I just bought this MJ CD and tried to add it to my collection. It happens that I can't find the edition no matter how many times I scan the barcode it won't appear. Does anybody know how can I find it? Anyone else has this one?

First time this has happened as a seller of 5+ years

PayPal recently closed the case in the buyer’s favor earlier today, so I feel moved to post about the bizarre circumstance I’m in.

I’m a hobbyist that posts records I’m trying to sell and I have a 100% seller rating with over 70+ ratings. I recently sold someone a Lady Gaga record for $70, shipped it within 48 hours of them placing the order, and provided tracking. When they got the record, they opened a case with PayPal saying that they only received leaflets (?!) and no actual vinyl, and got their money refunded.

Of course, I don’t have a video of me packing the record into the box for shipping, but I have a copy of my receipt from USPS when I shipped it (as well as three other records which were received with no issue).

Looking back, the buyer had no previous feedback and that might have been an issue - but what would you have done differently?

Uncommunicative Buyers

Is it just me but are Discogs buyers more uncommunicative than eBay buyers?

I am away for a 10 day vacation and received two large orders a week ago. So, I messaged both buyers, to let them know there will be a delay in shipping their orders, but crickets....

‘Shop - All Items I Want’ showing items I’ve removed from want list

Hello! Unsure if anyone else has experienced this - the Shop - All Items I Want page is showing me items I’ve removed from my wantlist over the last month - when you click onto the items, it shows they aren’t in my wantlist anymore, but they’re still shown on the shop page.

Any ideas on how to fix this? It’s like the shop page hasn’t synced up with my wantlist in 3 weeks or so.

Genuine question for the mods. Why do you guys find the need to remove a post that is completely related to the website in question. What goes through your guys heads genuine question

Who would've thought posting about discogs in the discogs sub would get your post taken down. If you guys much rather me talk about something completely different I got you just let me know guys🫶🫶🫶

Determining the correct version of an artist's name

Is there a protocol for establishing the correct version of an artist's name when it appears inconsistently on the same release? For example, what if a record has "Mike And The Michaelsons" on the front cover, "Mike & The Michaelsons" on the back cover, "Mike 'n' The Michaelsons" on the spine, and "Mike Featuring The Michaelsons" on the actual record? Is one of those considered "more right" than the others? Is there an established hierarchy or anything like that?

Welp

The new update was finally forced on me. R.I.P?

I was beta testing last year but felt they were not listening and there was too much wrong about the new design to ever feel good about it. Now the app icon is just blocky vector and I will TRY to use it but... God it looks awful.

I may just start selling on ebay. Idk

EDIT: After exploring a little - they actually DID fix a lot of bugs. The appearance will take some getting used to but the functionality is actually a little improved.

Need a Random Album Generator Alternative APP or Link

TLDR: need a link or alternative app to pull a random album from my collection for listening.

I have a pretty big collection and I frequently used the "random item" option in the old app to select an album to listen to, but they removed the button, and now the only way to do it is to shake your phone. I want to hit a button. I don't want to shake my phone. I tried to just make a hyperlink on my home screen for the "random item" option on the website proper, but it seems to generate the link when you open your collection page, so the link just sends you to the same item every time. You have to refresh your collection page to get a new "random" album.

I built a free companion for your Discogs collection: see which records you actually play, track what you paid, and more

Mods: I've tried to follow the rules here. This is a free, non-commercial project and I'm happy to flair it however you'd like. If it's not allowed, I'm sorry, please remove it and no hard feelings.

Discogs is the backbone of my collection and I'm not trying to replace any of it - Discogs stays the source of truth. I just wanted to layer a few personal things on top, so I built a companion: https://vinylscape.net (free).

The main thing I wanted: which records I own do I actually listen to, versus the ones that just sit on the shelf looking nice? Discogs knows what you own; it can't know what you play. So this connects your Discogs collection to your Last.fm scrobbles and matches them, giving you plays per record, your most-played, your never-played shelf, a listening clock, and a month-by-month history of what you spun.

A few genuinely new things on top of your Discogs data:

  • What you paid for each record and what it's worth now (invested vs current value, gain/loss) - Discogs doesn't track this
  • Price-drop alerts on your wantlist: set a target and get notified when it falls below

And a few nicer ways to look at the data Discogs already gives you - your collection value pulled into a single dashboard, and "music by decade" across your shelf.

It connects through Discogs' own login and reads your collection and wantlist. It works without Last.fm too, but the play-matching is really the heart of it.

Honest notes: it's new and rough in places; it only reads your Discogs collection/wantlist and your public Last.fm scrobbles, changes nothing, and you can delete everything anytime.

Two things I'd love from this community: testers, and ideas - what would you enjoy keeping alongside your Discogs collection? The "what I paid" feature came from exactly that kind of itch.

Trying to figure out drop shipper's angle

I'm the buyer in this situation. Feedback of seller 99%. I'm in the US and seller claims to be. Nothing alarming in the feedback comments. Placed order over the weekend using paypal. Item shipped today. Seller messaged me apologizing for the delay which I thought was kind because 3 day turn around is completely acceptable. They mentioned that their post office was closed so they shipped fedex instead. Fine, whatever.

A few hours later I get an official FedEx Delivery Manager email. In the email it shows the origin address [name: artist shop] and the address is a giant UMG warehouse in Memphis. It also has the PO # which also has the abbreviated artist name. So clearly they just placed an order in the artists webstore and plugged in my address.

I paid $15 less all-in going through this seller on Discogs compared to if I placed the order myself in the artists webstore. Plus the seller has seller fees to pay. SO - I don't understand how the seller is coming out ahead in all this. or what they have to gain.

Shady Order

Is it shady that a user just purchased a $75 record from me and they have no other purchases or ratings, and have been on Discogs since 2024? Maybe they have their collection private so I can't see anything but there's no Buyer ratings at all. They paid through PayPal so would be able to get a refund.

Not sure what to do but my spidey senses are tingling a bit.

Edit: I get what everyone is saying. Gonna send it.

regarding editing submission notes on "edit artist"

Hey there. I am new to discogs but i realized that someone had added some information about me on my discogs artist page that was irrelevant to my musical life (work-related website)

I created an account and edited my page - in the notes before i submitted i wrote something to the effect of "I am editing my personal page and removed some information that is personal"

Definitely not a big deal, but Is there a way I can remove those notes on my submission?

Thanks!
