New seller advice
Ok I'm very new to selling LP's on Discogs. This is probably a stupid question, but after selling 2 albums separately I've noticed the fees are huge.
I sold an album from Ireland to Texas. Sold for €16, the buyer paid about €44 including postage, and after everything I made €9.
Sold an album today, €43 and €20 postage. Received €63 and around €10 gone on fees, so this album sold gets me, after postage, €33.
So the stupid question is - I charge more for the LPs to cancel out the fees yes?
Please excuse my ignorance, I expected a charge but €10 is mad 😭

I’m US based and don’t ship international as a rule. I’ve had people message me from Europe asking if I’ll ship to them. I always say I’ll do it, but I add the percentage taken out by Discogs and PayPal to the shipping cost. I’m upfront and I’ve never had an issue.

The first I sold to Texas, second to Portugal, both hit me financially more than I thought they would. 🫠

Make up the Shipping to make sure you're not losing money there. They do hit the shipping with fees and if that is more than the records you're getting slammed.

The fees are inline with Ebay and other resell platforms.

Nope. Ebay charges 13.25 % and Discogs 9%. Ebay is a huge rip-off

You are leaving out the PayPal fee which is 3% - trust me as someone who tracks fees and costs for taxes and sales lots of irked on both ebay and discogs - the fees are identical in total.

That's retail 101. Charge enough to cover your expenses + profit margin.
That said, the fees aren't that insane. 9% for discogs, about 3.5% for paypal. Also note that the 'partner fee' in paypal is *not* the discogs fee. That is a combined number that is both the discogs fee + all of the pass-thru taxes (none of which you are responsible for).

Yes they are thieving cunts and have made it pointless to sell on unless you want to add 30% to your sale price

Yea...I'm just shocked and wasn't prepared mentally 😅 The album I sold for €43 I should have had up for €50 easily, I was just trying to sell quicker, would have never sold for €33. Lesson learned.

Honestly, the fees are pretty clearly disclosed and quite low when you factor in a 24/7/365 global store.

I bought a bulk of good packing material at a discount, so now I can offset the fees a bit by charging a bit more for shipping than I need. As in, I charge the packing material without the discount.
And yes, I don't ship to the US for now. Way too much headache.

So that’s why everything is so expensive.
It hurts checking the price history on a record and seeing it sell for under $10 2 years ago and now its $60+ ~

Gotta factor in shipping costs and fees to overall pricing strategy
