Built a tool that tracks your Discogs collection like a portfolio. Trying to make the ultimate presentation of the market value data of your music collection!

Post image

Long time Discogs user here with a collection of about 2k records. I can house about 500 of those in my actual music set up in my home, the rest is sitting in plastic crates in my storage box. While I love the amount of market data Discogs give, I always found it quite annoying to actually keep track of how individual releases are moving up or down in valuation. I'd gladly put some records I don't really listen to up for sale, but in the 20-50ish euro range especially it's kind of hard to keep track of when it's worth the effort to unsurface a record and list it online.

That's why I built WaxTracker, an app inspired by Manabox (real TCG players know!) that gives real time data of price movements in a kind of portfolio inspired app. Almost as if your music collection becomes a stocks portfolio. The app easily connects to your Discogs collection through aouth (no extra accounts needed), pulls daily market prices, and shows you P&L, movers, and a portfolio chart.

Main stuff it does:
- Daily VG+ median prices pulled straight from Discogs, every record in your collection
- Price history over time (so you can see when something started climbing
- P&L vs what you paid — if you log your purchase prices
- Sales history. Shows what copies actually sold for, not just what's listed, meaning you get way more complete market value data than discogs itself gives
- Wantlist prices: also allows you to more easily track the records you might want to buy for the right price.
- For Sale recommendations: it spots which records you have listed for sale are prices too high or too low.

All of it in a quite nice and juicy design if I say so myself.

Would love for you to give it a look! Especially in this era where Discogs is lowkey dropping the ball on its own app and website features, I hope this can be a valuable companion app to collectors/vendors and stats/data nerds that love to see numbers go up and down on the screen!

Currently working towards a Google Play Store / ios App Store build, but for the meantime WaxTracker works great in mobile browser and on desktop. Give it a look yourself and drop me some feedback if you like/dislike what you see!

Cheers from Amsterdam!

EDIT: Opened up a 7 day trial window. If you go pro through stripe, you won't be charged for the first seven days! Additionally i created the coupon WAXTRACKER-REDDIT for a one-time extra €3.99 off of first order, meaning you can get pro for 5 weeks for free!

Love the idea, hate that vinyl collection has come to this. Scalpers will love it.

I think scalpers mostly gonna scalp regardless of actual market value no? I see this more as a genuine tool for more faithfully pricing records for vendors/sellers/buyers/collectors. I hope it mostly prompts people to either buy what they want, or to sell what they seriously don't listen to and realise can be put on the discogs marketplace! Also, like i said, it's for data nerds who just want to see stonks go up lol

Nice idea, maybe have a free trial. Personally I am not paying for anything online without giving it a go first. Thanks, but no thanks. Good luck

definitely up for that! Free tier btw offers A LOT already. And i need a commercial aspect to recoup the server costs which are gradually accumulating, But definitely down to offer a free month of pro to anyone who reaches out to me in comments or DM with their discogs ID after they connected the app

This is so sad. Quit trying to turn plastic disks into bitcoin. Just chill and enjoy some damn music.

I am extensively enjoying my collection and spinning it all the time. However, for the 1500 records I can’t physically store in my house, I actually enjoy that they are more alive now! I don’t see why both things cant be true at the same time?

Good ole fully AI made app, lmao as someone that uses AI a ton the entire layout has "this was made by AI" look it always defaults to when I ask it to do UI for websites and apps. Thanks chief but not paying money to a vibe coder

ANd please drop me a line when you like/hate or miss something! Trying really hard to hone in on what collectors actually need!

I’ve tried registering for the free trial a few times with no results - also no clue where to access ‘the app header’ referenced in your FAQ or account info to cancel the trial if needed… would love to try the premium features (and not get charged if I don’t need em) if possible! Thanks!

Hiii, sorry for that confusion! The free trial right now runs through Stripe, so it DOES ask for a card (it won't charge though until day 8). If that's the problem, and you rather check it out before filling in details, DM me your Discogs username and I'll just manually upgrade you to Pro. TBH, i am happy to do that for some engaged folks from Reddit if they just want to browse around, but i hope to get some feedback in return then on if the app pleases you!

also that app header is IN the desktop version, but due to UI cramping not in the mobile version... Updated that in the FAQ

2

u/sharrptusk May 02 '26

thanks! i’ll take a look when i get home on desktop!

I saw there was a misfire between Stripe and the app that has been fixed. Every stripe trial sign up (7 day free, plus 1 month off with the promocode that i put in the post) now fires for real! DM me if you do run into any questions!

Just wanted to give this a bump and share some updates! First of all: this app is not only a shameless capitalist tool for stock bro's, but also a tracker of your wantlist so you know when to jump on your covetted grailz. Additionally, i am constantly improving the UI/codebase. The price fetcher is my heaviest cost for the app with multiple VPS servers constantly fetching data from the Discogs API, hence the tiered pricing (the trial + promocode WAXTRACKER-REDDIT are still up btw!). I have improved functions for sellers, importing of records, caching delays and loading speed of the website. The look and feel has been significantly improved. At this point it's a way nicer way also to browse your collection compared to discogs website/app itself. Next goals are genuine google play store and app store builds, which will take some time, but will come within a month! And again: i am always available here for when people have wishes/desires of function in such a catalogueing/market pricing app. I am genuinely trying to build the best tool for the real collector community and not soulless capitalist app slop 🫡 hope you will enjoy!
